These are a couple errors I found in change a couple years ago, but never had a very good idea of their value. Obviously, their value is "whatever someone would pay", but I don't want to sell them. I'm just looking for a ballpark idea. The first is a double-clipped 1996P dime - as you can see, it's not exactly in cherry condition, but it's still got some luster to it. It seems to be missing about 3% with two nice clips. The second is a blank quarter planchet (edit: it's not clear from the picture, but it's a type 2). I found it in my change jar and not in a mint roll, so I have no idea about the year or anything. Edited by CaptainFwiffo 06/21/2011 12:23 am

The quarter may be a blank (Type 1)or it may be a planchet (Type 2). The difference if the coin having the setup rim or not having one. It is hard to tell for sure from the image. The price is probably about the same, but the type 1 (no rim) is probably more in demand. The type 2 is more common. Value: probably in the $2-5 range. depending on the buyer on how much he wants it.
The dime is a nice incomplete planchet with two clips and both showing the blakesley effect. Not sure on the price range for it. Others may be more familiar with pricing.

Another cool looking error I've found is this 2011 die crack. It's a beautiful looking crack even without magnification. I know cracks are not usually valuable, but I love this coin.

That actually looks like a lamination error not a die crack

It's a die crack. Laminations happen on copper planchets and nickels, & silver planchets.

My guess on the value of the Dime would be $19 to $25. I had several double a triple clipped Dimes and it seem to double the value for each clip. Around $10 for a nice 3% to 5% clip, double for a 2 clips $20, and double that $40 to $50 for a triple. The nice thing is with errors, if you find 2 or 3 people that want it, the price can go much higher than you would ever think. See this Nickel I sold on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...170641481391

Thanks for the information. That's more or less what I would have guessed, but it's fun to share the stuff I find.
