I sent off five Indian Half Eagles to NGC that I purchased raw off of ebay. I joined NGC specifically to get them authenticated. Sorry but I don't know how to post pictures. I had attempted to grade them from the pictures and was hoping to get XF grades on four of them and an AU grade on one of them. The bad news: my 1908 was unable to be graded due to a small amount of verdigris but is genuine. I can use some tips on how to clean this up without paying NCS to remove one small line of boogers. The good news: 1909D-AU55. 1909D-MS61. 1913-AU53. 1915-AU58. I was super happy with the 1909D MS61 because I sniped it for $405 and NGC's price guide quotes $800. I was very pleased with the grades that I was given. The only mistake that they made was that the 1913 has a very weak S mintmark that was not credited. As an amateur numismatist my challenge was to purchase genuine coins in that jungle of phony Indian Half Eagles that are out there and I managed to navigate my way into five out of five coins being genuine. I have one more raw Indian to submit, a 1911 S but it I'm sure that I'll never sell that one because it was my Grandfather's coin that I found in a pill bottle at his home after he passed. That coin got me interested in these coins, so I'd like to be able to touch it now and then, so no slab. All in all I'm very happy and now that gold is taking a big hit today I may be picking up some more in a month or so.

Nice story - thanks for sharing! Your worth-profit on the 1909d alone probably more than covers your expenses.

OUTSTANDING NEWS!

I'm very glad to hear you had success with your submissions junior e. It should give you confidence that your grading and "fake detection" skills are pretty sharp.

When you have a sec, shoot me an email. I can't send emails yet on this site.

I took a needle and gently worked the PVC green stuff off of my 1908 that was body bagged. I re-submitted it and it came back AU58 this time. I feel very fortunate that all of these coins were purchased as extra fine. BuffalosRock I can't figure out how to PM you.
