hello I would like any insight that anyone can give me I found a Buffalo nickel with what I think is an error, somehow a line got put in front of the buffalos head making it look like a unicorn.....has anyone seen this? I attached pix thank you.

Looks like the Buffalo is staring very intently with his Superman vision, doesn't it?

Very hard to tell anything from the picture (at least for me), but it doesn't look like anything that will allow you to quit your day job. Sorry.

Could be a die gouge, but I would lean more toward damage. Hard to say.

1916..honestly it looks like a weak accidental strike or something, also its the same place as the "i'' in liberty on the reverse but a mirror image....if that made any sense..lol

It could possibly be a die clash. But we would need to see better pics. How does the obverse look? If it is a clash, there could also possibly be remnants of it there.

If it is raised, most likely a die gouge, if it is incluse ( indented) it is most likely post mint damage, if it is level, probably a stain of corrosion.

It looks to be a planchet flaw to me and it just happened to line up with the top of the buffalo's head. Wouldn't that be grand if it was an infamous error? What a concept!
