Never heard of a way to take scratches like that out ..
This coin will never have the value of a problem free coin.
For me this is the type coin you can use as a learning tool. To see if you can get the verdigris off with out hurting the coin any further.
Wire brush is not a approved procedure!

Quote: Wire brush is not a approved procedure! Amen to that! There is nothing you can do for the scratches, but as far as the verdigris, I'm going with John on the verdi-tone. Still for a type coin of this age, IMO they are all nice collectibles.

what a shame. I wonder when that happened.... if it was when the coins was just a few years old, well ohh well. If it was in the last 100 years then that is maddening...

The only way to help this coin is to put it in your pocket with your other coins and carry it for possible several years until it get worn down enough to remove the scratches. You'll probably lose several grade levels in the process. Get it down to a VF or Fine and it will probably be OK.
