Update: I probably shouldn't have created a separate thread for this. Please join the discussion in the Buffalo Challenge mothership thread if you have any comments on these coins.

While going through some dateless nickels, I found these two, which I believe are both key dates. I really can't believe my luck, but I want to get some other eyes on these to make sure I'm not just being wishful.

Of course, I could use Nic-A-Date to be sure, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

I believe this is a 1914-D. The position of the "F" below what looks like a "4" eliminates 1924 and 1934 as possibilities, and the triangle is the right shape compared to other 1914 nickels. It has a clear D mintmark on the reverse.

This has no date at all, but I think 1921 is the only date with the hair detail at the top of the braid like this. The mintmark on the back is just a blob, but there is no 1921-D so it must be 1921-S if it is a 1921 at all.

I have some additional detail pictures if you need them in my Buffalo nickel Challenge thread.

First one is definitely 20D. 1920 has a very wavy ribbon and the 0 is quite discernible even when otyher parts are worn down. The 2nd one has the wavy robbon like the 1920, but has hair detail, making it a 1921-S. Great job!

Oh, that's great info. Tell me more about this wavy ribbon... Is it just on 20 and 21? I've got a large pile of partial and no date nickels and that I'm working through and that's exactly the kind of info I need.
