Hi folks -

I've been buying and selling on ebay since 1999. I have paid them tens of thousands of dollars in fees during that time, because the traffic volume pretty much guarantees that I'll get the best returns and quickest turnarounds for my coins.
Recently, I began selling my ancient coin cleaner online at Amazon, eBid, and ebay. I also have been setting up reseller agreements in order to sell more bottles. Today, ebay suspended both of my seller accounts, my roommate's account, and a business associate's account without warning. Why? Because we all are selling my coin cleaner, and my roommate has the same address as I do. In order to be reinstated, I am required to fax in copies of my ID, 2 bills with my address, and PROOF that the items I have listed have been paid for! This, after 12 years of selling!
I rely on the business I do on ebay. Unfortunately, I don't know of anywhere else that can deliver the traffic I need to succeed. Any suggestions?
Signed,
Desperate and Frustrated

to be honest there aren't allot of other options that has the audience ebay offers to sellers of normal run of the mill items. Heritage and Teletrade is good if its high end stuff but their fees are worse than ebay and wouldn't do well for just everyday items that should go to places like ebay. There are plenty of online auctions for coins like ebay that have less fees or no fees at all but the audience is a small small percentage of what you would get on ebay (and I mean probably less than 2% of the ebay audience you can reach)

Aboarman I hear you loud and clear. Theirs no substance when dealing with them. Its in one ear and out the other, And then they just repeat the same thing you just spent 10mins trying to get them to understand. They don't have any customer respect. Not an once of customer loyalty.

There's Amazon, but they aren't perfect either.

Ebay/ paypal treats sellers like crap, google checkout might take on paypal.but ebay is suing them to shut it down.

I suspect there's more to this than we're being told.

Why so many selling accounts? Here's my edumacated guess.....

You were trying to get around ebay's identical listing rule which is implemented to keep one seller from dominating pages of results for a search term. You have multiple accounts in your name, a business account, and a "roomate account" at the same address as you all list identical listings for your cleaner. So now a search for "ancient coin cleaner" or something similar swallows up pages of results for you. Exactly what the rule is designed to prevent. Just because you've been a member for 12 years doesn't entitle you to break the rules.

You got caught. Deal with it like an adult.

Scubu -

I understand why they would want to prevent duplicate accounts. It makes sense. However, this is not the case here. Both accounts under my personal information as well as my business are legitimate, and are separate for legitimate reasons, i.e. I want to keep business and personal finances separate. And yes, people do have roommates. It is quite childish of you to put the word in quotation marks like some kind of veiled insinuation. I posted this topic in order to get suggestions on alternatives to ebay's hegemony, not to be insulted by other members.

Have a nice day.

No... you don't. They love multiple accounts. The more accounts they can boast, the more the stockholders love them. What they don't want is duplicate accounts for the sole purpose of circumventing the rules.

Childish is getting caught, then whining about it.

Scubu, you exceed the bounds of propriety and it isn't making you any friends around here.

Aboarman, your multiple accounts are not the problem. The fact that you're using all of them to sell the same product is a problem. Especially when you contend that your multiple accounts are to separate business from personal use - why are you selling your commercial product from your personal account? And why is your roommate selling your product?

Viewed impartially, that sure looks on the surface like rule evasion. The solution, once you've jumped through the hoops that you've (accidentally or not) created for yourself, is to limit the selling of that product to one account. Assuming the business associate's account is at another address, you can probably use it as well, but at this point I'd clear it with ebay.

I have had just about enough with ebay. The fee % is just getting out of control.

Yeah, at this rate, in a year or two they'll be charging the same percentage as any of the major auction houses already do.

ebay is a joke, we all know that..well, what it's become is a joke.
Really, what else is there that draws such an audience?

My final words on this. The 2nd account for business is brand new. I had listings on my personal account that were GTC 30 day listings that I already paid for, and decided to let them run out on their own. My plan is/was to gradually migrate business listings over to the new account. The new account also had selling limits, remember. My roommate does not sell my product or anything even closely resembling coins. He just sells odds and ends occasionally like 95% of people, and is not a "pro" seller - I think he's sold maybe 10 items in 3 years.
Scubu, I don't understand your hostility. Are you working for ebay? And before you go spouting off again, I would advise you to read carefully. I said in my previous posting that I understand why the do not want duplicate accounts, which they do not. What they love are multiple accounts that sell a variety of items. I really hope that you are not representative of the type of people on this forum. If so, I will be closing my account.
To everyone else, thank you for the suggestions. I will certainly keep looking. In the meantime, I've sent everything required by ebay and expect I'll be back in business shortly. I've decided to close the separate account I set up for business to avoid any more hassle, and will manage the books on my end.

Hmmm, the whole thing sounds a bit odd but, did anyone else notice this:

Then...

Really? And here I thought I was done speaking about this.
OK, I mis-spoke, mis-typed, whatever you want to call it. To clarify, then, we all (meaning my 2 seller accounts and people I sell wholesale to) were selling the product.
Anyhow, I sent the fax to ebay and all is well. Lost 3 days of business and had to re-post, but I'm using the opportunity to try out the store option, which they've agreed to not charge me for 6 months. I still am unsure of the exact reasoning behind the suspensions. We'll see how things go.

I really was hoping that joining "Coin Community Forum" would be a positive experience, where I would find people interested in numismatics, enjoy buying and selling, and want to exchange knowledge. Instead, I have found people who are vindictive, petty, and tiresome.
How does anyone benefit from posts like the ones left by Whytlash, Scubu, and countless others I have seen throughout these forums?
This is the first time I've ever bothered joining a forum - I just never saw the need for it. After this experience, it will most likely be the last. I certainly don't need this.

aboarman,

The only thing scubu and Whytlash are guilty of is being brutally honest. You also aren't the only one who has been with ebay for over 10 years and knows how the rules and systems work...or should work.

Personally I enjoy a forum with frankness without sugarcoating everything. And scubu was right....you got caught breaking the rules and you want someone to be sympathetic to your cause.

Stick around. We are a great bunch to get to know. I'm sorry that your first encounter with us is not up to your expectations but please try to see this thread from a fresh perspective.

Obviously, you are speaking from ignorance. You joined how long ago? Please, give the CCF a chance and keep an open mind. This is one of the most friendly forums with some of the most grateful and honest people you will ever know.
aboarman, put this behind you and move on. I can promise you, it only gets better here
ebay has saddened me too since 1997, the year I joined. I have had my trials and tribulations with them as well as dishonest and unscrupulous sellers. I was about to give up! I was so upset
Please stick around. We would love to have you
