I got this one at a Heritage auction today for $224. Do you think it's a good deal or is there too much face chatter?

It does appear to have a bit more chatter than expected for MS-64. The CAC sticker is supposed to mean the coin is solid for the assigned grade but based on these images I'd say they haven't been strict with this one. With the many small marks on the cheek and the fairly obvious scuffs above and below IGWT on the reverse this looks like it should top out at no better than MS-63.

That $224 would be a fair deal for a strong 64 in an NGC slab with the CAC sticker. It this Morgan is really an MS-63 as it appears the price was a bit high IMO.

NGC estimates the value at $281.25. But of course nobody goes off of that.
Rest in Peace

I see what Jaobler is saying, it does seem to have more chatter than normal. On the other hand, the luster, to me seems nearly GEM-ish. There are very few luster breaks other than the scattered chatter. So overall, it averages out imho.

To me it does not appear to be an MS64 coin, I would agree with MS63, too many small marks.

The marks, while numerous appear to be quite shallow and superficial. My guess is that they are far less obvious 'in person'. The luster seems strong and CAC doesn't miss on too many of the common date CC Morgans. My guess is once you get it, it will look better than the Heritage image and will be strong for the grade.

Hard to say but I am with greghansen. I think in hand, the coin will look more appropriate with the assigned grade. I have a couple NGC MS64's, that mirror this coin, especially when photographed.

I would grade this coin MS-63+. Better luster than your typical 63 but too many marks to make 64 IMHO
