AU 58 sounds about right to me. The coin does show a little better in hand but there seams to be a lack of sharpness. Maybe a weak strike or some small wear? Not sure which.

Looking closer at the head does anyone see a small die crack? Sorry the photo isn't better; I am having lighting issues.

I see cracked buffalo skull. Nice die crack! I think this is AU- some light wear on buffalo's head.

Definitely worn; I'd guess AU-50 but I could go higher if the coin retains a lot of luster. The images don't seem to show any.

Definitely a die crack across the buffalo's head. I know they changed the design halfway through the 1913 production year; I wonder if that was because they had excessive die damage (i.e., cracks) or because the coins did not strike up well? I'm sure some of our nickel specialists would know the answer....

I understand it was because of the wear issue (why they never fixed the obverse, I'll never understand.)

Nice head of the herd Buff. I'm comfortable with an AU-58 too. The Type 1's did have some weaknesses in a lot of the strikes.
