The reflectiveness is making it tough to see the details in places.

but a very nice coin

Grade I'd say between MS63-65RD, I'd need a better picture. Are those hairs or scratches after "OF"? and what about the spots on the left obverse?

Well I tried to take some better photos for ya. My camera is junk and wont focus on this darn thing. When I try manual focus it wont let me focus in closer than 1 meter and the auto focus is a joke!

Yes there are some spots on the obverse of the coin, and yes I think that is a small scratch you see rachums107.

Also the rim looks worn down in the photos but thats just the light playing tricks

They are hard for me to see. I can make out part of one with my eyes lol. In the high res photo I have I can make out a partial outline on 3 of them.

Makes me nervous....
There are many IHC's that look Red but are actually dipped/cleaned to simulate original mint red color. This one raises that concern IMO. If it is actually MS Red the tiny carbon spots would limit the grade to 63 at best.

You have to look out for counterfeits too. What about that blob at the top of the ribbon? I don't recall seeing that kind of die break on a genuine coin.
Rest in Peace

This one looked odd to me from the get go, and I believe the coin is a counterfeit. The date is way too bubbly, and the denticles around the rim look weak...
Compare to a genuine 1876:

I could be wrong, but I would send it back to be safe.

Could be the way the pics were taking but, I got to agree with johnny, the date doesn't look right to me.

I think Johnny may be right on this.
Execellent observation Johnny.
The details look 'soft' on the coin.
It could be the pics - angle of camera
Can you post pics with the camera more verticle?
Rest in Peace

Good eye Jaobler. There also appears to be a few blobs below the wreath 7 o'clock on the reverse that I didn't notice at first. With all of these concerns combined along with the color and soft details, I'm pretty sure it's fake.

Since it's not a key, this wouldn't be a coin I'd expect to be faked; but then again, this is a good reason for the culprit to fake it since folks are less likely to spend lots of time authenticating it. It's still a $300+ coin in MS, which is enough to provide fraudulent motivation.

Looks like a well made Chinese counterfeit, they been active in the "copy" coins of the 1866/1878 IHC run. They are getting good at simulating MS coins. I agree with the others, the date looks off. Hope you didn't pay red MS prices for this.

Did you pay for it with PayPal?

If so, the return process is pretty easy. Contact the seller first and explain that you would like to return the coin for a full refund. If they refuse, then open an Item Not As Described dispute through PayPal.
