Over the past year and a half or so, I've OCD'd myself into a collection of just about everything US coin-wise. I've finally reached a point where "few" is much more attractive than "many". The "few" will be commemoratives - the early years. My question is part philosophical and part real world. How do I go about turning expensive sets into liquid assets to enable my diving into the early commems? For example: I have a complete color matched set of BU Washingtons 1932-98 with 1968 upward proofs(Dansco 8140); complete set of Peace dollars (all BU less an AU-58 1928 and XF 1934-S). These are just examples. I would love to let the sets continue life as a family instead of selling them coin-by-coin. Other sets include, but are not limited to: a complete Mercury set (1934 and up BU), complete Walker set, complete SLQ set (less 1916) etc. etc. Other than advice, I guess I'm testing the waters to see if there are any Forum-ites that might have an interest in obtaining some of the sets. The only sacrosanct sets are my Type Set, Buffalo nickel Set and Modern Commems.... Sorry for running on, but I'm looking for guidance here... Paleoguy

I'm with you on quality over quantity. I'd getting close to unloading much of my collection in favor of fewer, but higher quality coins.

doesn't sound like quality is paleo's problem. he has some pretty highly graded sets. I think what he may be asking is whether or not there is an appetite, here or elsewhere, for sets of this quality. I'm not in that league so I'm just oging to watch!

You could try to offer each one as a set and see if there are any takers. I would have to believe that most people have their single coin wantlists and that's how they shop. I would be hard pressed to buy a complete set of Large Cents/Half Cents and once (my collecting interests) Give one a shot. All you have to loose are some listing fees ( ebay). make sure you do justice with the photos. KK

I'm still unloading much of my quantity for quality coins, especially keys.

I wouldn't want to buy a set. It would take all the fun out of filling it . I have so many keys I need in 3-4 sets that it's driving me crazy. But I know when I fill a key, it's a feeling of uphoria. Then my wife and friends have to listen to me rant and have to have me show them how beautiful it is over and over for at least 2 weeks. But I am sure that there are people out there that want the short cut just to say they have a full set. But I am much less experienced than most of the people here. From what I have seen on this forumn, many would look at the individual coin, and treasure the individual "buy". That they have been looking for for many months or years.
