I was looking for more Westward nickels today and look what I found! who releases a proof nickel to the wild? It looks kind of circulated now and I would almost say that the finish attracts even more dirt. Interesting

Thanks Fuzzy, that's why when I compared it to images of other 1981 nickels it seemed different ....

Hey, an 1987S the only date for a proof I've ever found-I've found three of them, two dimes and a penny.

Quote: I've come across three total proof Jefferson in my searches so far ... after 252,000 coins Funny, I don't search nickels, but I looked in my hand once and a proof was staring up at me. I guess it was more unlikely than I thought!

A proof nickel is a nice find. Even if it is "impaired". I would still put it in a book or flip and save it. I love these kinds of finds! I hope I find one some day.

In my mom's change the other day , between two places she managed to get something like 6 nickels that were minted before 1960, with 2 War Nickels , a 1940 and 1942 (non silver).

Always nice to find proofs in change, especially when they fid their way into the hands of a collector.

The only proof that I have found in circulation is a half dollar of the same date. Now we just need someone that has found a 87-S quarter and we would have all the components of that set. Nice find!
