Given the state of the economy lately, and the big fluctuation in the stock market, I was thinking about putting some more silver into my portfolio. A couple of times a year, I throw a few thousand bucks at my financial advisor, and let her do with what she does with it. I found this out there on e-bay, which I have a hard time trusting, sometimes. http://cgi.ebay.com/1916-STANDING-L...t_2985wt_951Just wondering what the thoughts out there might be about investing in this, and holding back on my 401K, or I guess it would be about a 201K after the past few weeks.

A nice SLQ, but wow, that's a lot to sink into one coin...

I don't know if it's worth it. Someday, you'd need to sell that coin, and when your talking 5 figures, your talking about a very very small % of the population that can afford to buy something like that. It's a gamble. The coin could be worth $25,000 in 10 years, yes, but could you find anyone willing to buy it for even $15,000? I see these high priced coins on ebay all the time and one thing that is certain to me, they rarely sell.

I don't know much about the value of a XF 1916 SLQ but it looks a little high to me for a XF coin. I haven't done any research (which I would do if I was the one buying) but if I found the price seemed pretty close selling would not be a problem, it may not be something you put on ebay but would not be a problem for a heritage or Stacks or Bowers and Merena so you can take that out of the equation because with key dates there is always someone with the money that wants the coin, its not like common date stuff. But this is only after doing the research necessary to be sure the price is in line with what it should be

That is a high price. But For what it's worth, that is an exceptionally strong XF-40. It actually looks closer to AU to me, it should be an easy XF-45. It would be a decent buy at 8-8.5K.

Putting money into key date U.S. coins is NEVER a bad thing. Your money is safe.

Man, that is pretty!! I agree with Johnny, it's a bit overpriced but it's also a very rare coin! There are not too many like this one. And even at that price, the seller can rest assured someone wants it (Me!) and is willing to pay for it (Not me).

That is the other one that I was looking at. Thanks for the input, guys, and gals. It is giving me a few more things to think about.
