My dad got this Morgan as a graduation gift about 30 years ago and it had been sitting in our safe and where ever he went with the navy for years. I love coins and when we were cleaning out the safe he gave it to me. It is my first Morgan and since it is from him I will prize it for ever, but I am still curious on grade. It was in a 2x2 that was not stapled correctly and air still got to it which lead to discoloration. I took it out, hope that was not bad, and put it in an air tight that it will live in for another 50 years. What do you guys think? I feel the detail is good and it is sad it has the rustish color change. To bad it did not go a pretty color, but it is what it is and really nice for the age in my opinions. Thanks for your all opinions.

Sorry for the wrong section. I don't want to make another post so maybe a admin can move it for me.

A little hard to tell from the pics, but I'd go with MS63 also.

Thanks for your opinions. I know it is not really worth it to get it slabbed, but I might in the future.

Agree with the 63 and need for better photos and more of them. Look at it with a loop and note the mm location and any overdate such as O/O, look for doubling, clashing etc. We may be able to help you VAM it but the photos are necessary. Also look on VW yourself to try to narrow it down. The air getting to it is not a problem. A gift from Dad is definately a keeper. Good luck!

Quote: Don't you dare try to clean that coin now! Lol, thanks for telling me, but I have no desire to clean it. I know like anything old and collectible the natural patina is a lot of the value and removing it destroys what ever it was on. From coins, to guns, to furniture I know now not to clean.

Wow! That is a very well struck morgan. I'd say MS-64+ because there is'nt as much bag marks as I thought there were.

I'm still at 63 with a +, 64 on a good day. The cheek, jaw and field at 7-8 o'clock are distracting. Still very nice for New Orleans. I'd be proud to have it.
