I was just drooling over some ASE's at the dealers shop today. He is asking $50 a piece for 2010 minted ones. My question is, trading in some Kennedy halves to get an ASE, is that a wise move? I know silver is silver, but do ASE's show any better performance than Kennedy's should silver prices drop, or are ASEs completely pegged to silver spot just like silver Kennedy's are?

They are both pretty much only worth silver. I would probably just keep the kennedys. The price does seem to be a little bit on the high side but if you really like the silver eagle I would say go for it.

When it comes time to sell you will get closer to melt with the Eagle, depending on dealer. $50 is high though in my opinion. I am sure you could talk him down to $45 especially since it is essentially a trade.

I have in the past sold 40% Kennedys and used the cash to buy ASEs. In my opinion, $50 is pretty high for ASEs. You could buy them from some online metal dealers right now for around $47 a pop. If you buy a roll, that is a $60 price reduction.
That being said, if you can get the dealer down and/or you are not buying that many, it would be better to buy from the local dealer given shipping.

Well inless its graded or something about it makes some value to collectors rather than scrappers, that can bring an investment but I also would have to say keep your halves. "junk" silver will become a lot more scarce in the comming years.

I have a 2010 NGC Graded MS-69, I'd be willing to trade for some Kennedy halves. Are they Circulated or Unc. your halves.

Junk silver halves are not going to become scarce. They were harder to find when I was roll hunting in the late '70's, right before and during the H bros run up.
I don't shed a tear when I trade up my 40% for ASE's. 40% takes up too much space in my sdb. I currently get $5 each for the 40's, last time I traded was a month ago.
Regardless of how many roll hunters there are, silver is constantly dumped back into the system for us to find.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
Roll hunting since '77
Dirt fishing since '72
