*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Hello everyone. I just started seriously collecting about 3 months ago. Then I found my first error penny which got me into searching for varieties. While searching through my mom and dad's 40+ year old hoard of wheat pennies I found this. CherryPickers Guide states only 1 has been found. It also states they would like to examine another specimen. Any information on how I could make this happen would be very appreciated. In my opinion it does look like a filled D within the loop of the 5. What do you think? Sorry the photos aren't the best but it's the best my camera could get. Edited by CSOZREL 08/27/2011 7:49 pm

Welcome! What you have there is a die chip. Not a D.

Welcome, I agree, this is a die chip. You should have probably posted it in the errors section though :)

to CCF. I checked my CPG and your coin does look like it could be the FS#1cent-021.51 in a lot better condition then the one in the book. Do you have a CPG? you can contact Stanton and Fivaz with their E-mail addresses that are in the book. John1 EDIT: If you had contact info in your profile I would have PMed you directly with their E-mail addresses.

Ok, sorry it took so long to get back I had a busy weekend. Thanks for the posts. John1, what page would the email addresses be on in CPG? I also added my contact info to my profile if you want to go that route. Thanks again.

Neither Fivaz nor Stanton have anything to do with the CherryPickers' Guide any more. Fivaz retired from it years ago, and Stanton isn't even in coins any more. Best bet is to find Ken Potter - he's the man for the CPG now.

Interesting! There's a thread on another forum about this die. To me, this one looks more "3D" and rounded than that coin, or the example in CPG. This one might be more fully struck, filling up that D-shaped void in the die, whatever it is. My completely non-expert opinion is that this coin lends credence to the idea that this is a coincidentally shaped die chip rather than a misplaced mintmark. Definitely keep us posted.
