Charlton does list the 1885 5/3 variety. But how rare is it?

Heritage Auctions does list one in its archive, sold over the last 8 years. It was described as a "5 over a smaller 5". I couldn't find any sold in any major Canadian auctions over the last 3 years.

ICCS does not list it in its population report.

And I've spoken to one dealer with 20 years experience who collects Vicky 25 cent varieties, who told me he has never seen one. Not at coin shows, not at auctions.

So far I've located two, here's what the overdate looks like. Oddly the loop of the "3" underneath the 5 is partially hollow.

Thanks :)....all were bought on ebay the last 5 months. I've had to take a few chances and had a few misses :)...

I'm still missing the 1885 strt 5, 1886 25c 6/6 type 2 (with doubling on the bottom of the loop), and 1901 25c 9/9

My research seems to suggest that ALL the Victoria 25 cent varieties, are rarer than the 1875 25c...

Of course they are rarer than the 1875's.Almost all are the product of a single die, some are only the late stage of a die.More than one pair of dies was used for the 1875's,therefore they should be more plentiful.

Yes...and I wonder how many people are aware of that fact...

I also bring that up because a G4 1875 sells for $300 :)...
