One of my better deals in terms of what I paid / CV. I'd grade this aUNC; I paid $1.50 In terms of Canadian coins, I got this one for $4:

I am seeing some good deals posted already. For me that is a hard one to narrow down, I have been buying a lot coins the past year or so. One of my favorites is the 1909 S vdb Lincon NGC XF 45 I bought last Feburary for $1111.16, also I have found a 1914 D Lincoln NGC XF 45 I hope I can work out a good deal on this week. I did pick up a 1998 S matte proof Kennendy half dollar, I sent into NGC and looks like it graded SP-70 .. I started a post on that today. Most of my high percentage good buys are lower cost coins. For example yesterday I bought a 1970 D "wrong stock" Washington quarter. It is in AU/UNC condition. I paid $2.00 for it, when sold right these can sell for $20.00 to $30.00. Good profit for $2.00.

I've had some incredible deals on American coins from Canada. Probably the best one so far was my 1909-S IHC for $1. (Dealers up here drop mintmarks worse than the rookie running back drops footballs!)

Wow bibd, that is awesome. Always hoping to find cheap U.S. coins from dealers in Canada (mostly amateurs).

Quote: Please post a pic if you have one... I posted pics right after I found it (2 years ago), but the topic is probably archived by now. I think VF was the consensus grade. (edit: the head-band lettering is not very sharp looking in these pics, so maybe F-15 is all it is -- the darn dollar box probably downgraded it more than being in peoples' wallets! ) Here they are again. This guy was just sitting in a dollar box of IHC. I nearly died when I saw it! (By the way, this find got me much more serious about my IHC. Just a couple months ago, I found an 1908-S from a different dealer for $4. I might even save up for a low grade 1877 one day to finish off the set.)

The 1909-S has two reverse dies, and your coin appears to match one. Color looks normal. I would grade this a solid VF30--worth around $750--nice!

10xloupe: Thanks... your find sounds amazing too, in light of the high grades. I'm afraid that finding cheap US coins beyond ones' own collection doesn't do a whole lot of good, because they are *very* difficult to sell here, and Americans (understandably) don't really trust their own coins being imported. But a word to the wise: Canada has a good stockpile of (disregarded) US coins from circulation alone. For instance, you aren't very much less likely to find a Wheat cent roll-searching here as compared with south of the border.

The US is also a good place to search for Canadians, as my find above illustrates. It's also good searching ground for bulk cents from the 40s-50s. I once found 6 1949ATs in one dealer box of cents.

Yeah--it was really an odd coincidence--six, all in one place, some in EF+. But that was the only time I found them at a dealer.
