Another coin I got back from NGC this week. This coin was issued in the 1997 Botanic garden two coin set. It has a mintage of 25,000 On NGC's 100 greatest modern coin list it is #15 I am happy to get it back with a SP 69 grade.

Very nice! I've always said any Jeff can be box found, this may be the exception.

Very nice. Did they mint 25,000 of these nickels or 25,000 two coin sets. John1

I wonder if it would have been worth it to get the special "100 greatest" label. What's the extra charge for that?

Well Done! Love this Jeff. You did great! Do you have plans on the 04 issue as well. Either way I'm in love with your 69 in a good way lol

I've seen this SP a couple times now, what is that exactly? Is it an NGC-specific grading, like Super Proof? Superb Proof? Nice coin, regardless!

Jack, I too just started seeing the SP grade when I was looking for the 1994 matte nickel. I did notice that all the matte proof coins were graded in SP instead of PF, PR, or MS. However, I did some research and this is what I found: Quote: Specimen coins are better quality coins than Mint State, but not quite the quality of proof coins. Specimen coins are graded with ten different grades from Specimen 60 to Specimen 70. Specimen 60 is the lowest grade and Specimen 70 is the highest grade. The grades are denoted as SP-60, SP-61, SP-62, SP-63, SP-64, SP-65, SP-66, SP-67, SP-68, SP-69 and SP-70.

ANACS gives them MS grades, NGC gives them SP grades. I forget what pcgs puts on them.

What's the extra charge for that? I started seeing those slabs recently and was wondering if this one would come back in one... I did not send the coins in .. I did it through my dealer, so I don't know if it was a option or maybe you have to be a NGC member and active in that registry set

I believe PCGS denotes an SMS.
