We went for a short weekend getaway to a favorite little town nearby. There is a small coin shop there that I like to drop in and see what they have. There is usually a broad but small selection on hand and the owner is friendly and available, he usually will pull out something from the vault that will catch my interest. This time he had a nicely toned 1945 WLH in a NGC slab for $80, I had just a mild interest in this coin. Then I spotted it, one of the coins of my dreams. It was a 1955 DDO LWC slabbed with a XF-45 grade. The drooling commenced! My wife saw my interest and she immediately said I could get it if I wanted. Be still my heart I then informed my wife that this particular coin was far too expensive. With her complete lack of numismatic knowledge she insisted that it would be ok if I wanted to buy it Then the kindly proprietor quoted the price for her I can still hear the echoes... $1600 FOR A PENNY?!?!?

Good story. Still not sure if you walked out with it or not.

I had a feeling how this was going to end when you put "with the wife" in the title. Good one.

Yea. Since I am still young, my parents control me. They can't believe spending $20 on a Flying Eagle cent or something...

Super yarn. I couldn't get my wife within a hundred yards of a coin store.

Store this memory away for now and utilize this strategy when your wife drags you to a jewelry store. "Honey that is an awfully small diamond for $1600, but wow this Cubic Zirconia is much prettier and bigger for a 1/15th of the cost!"
