I am just unsure if it is a genuine counterfeit or a Chinese knockoff of.... You guessed it The Henning nickel. 1944 had no MM, weak detail, and overall seems real. But it does not have the loop, and the weight is 5 grams. From what I have read thus far I understand that it may still be genuine. What do you think? Thank you.

Agree, no evidence of alteration. C'mon, the Chinese have not stooped this low. Looks good to me. The wear is spot-on for a Henning.

I have a 1972 Henning for sale if anyone is interested https://goccf.com/t/256664&SearchTerms=henningWhile the pictures of the suspect coin above may appear to show "raised pimples" I feel the rims are too strong and the substantial wear make it hard to prove one side or another. Now if someone has a pic of a true high grade 1944 Henning with the same die crack / pitting line through the United States Of on the reverse then . . . .

Put Henning in the title .. and maybe the CCF expert will and give a opinion. -------------------------------------------- It would be nice if it had the loop "R" but we know that some did not have it. To me it has the look of a Henning. Your obverse looks a lot like mine. (mine has the looped "R")

Your obverse looks a lot like mine. (mine has the looped "R") The ONLY factor that would lead me to believe that the coin posted was a Henning was the lack of detail on the obverse in the shoulder / suit fold area. Since your coin appears to be the same grade as the one posted apove and yours has a sharp suit fold I am still going with removed / worn off / weak strike / struck though grease mint mark on a genuine nickel for the OP's coin. If I was Photoshop savy enough I would have done an overlay but I tried and 10 YO Photoshop version doesn't have it or at least I can't find any instructions online on how to to show the D.

The 1944 Henning was made of a Nickel composition like regular NON wartime Nickels . That's the first way of telling.

Correct and good point. The original coin certainly does not look like a warnick.
