I think this is a classic example...of grading...and the TPG's from before....and now....You know the VAM, I only quick glanced the GRADE....I think today it would grade MS64+ mabey CAC, not ms65....but then is this the trouble between, older grading in HOLDERS and what you will/get/submitt...received grades.....nice coin thought...

A little confused ? That holder does not look like an older holder to me. Unless old is 2 years. Looks like a nice coin to me. Grade seems more than fair. Not sure without actually having the coin in hand about any problems with it.

I think a 64* would be the right grade on this with NGC. I have seen some nice grades given out on a few of late that make you shake your head from NGC. Even the dealer that got them back was laughing, he sent in a roll of 1904 O's and got 3 back at MS66 and 10 at MS-65 and 7 at MS-64. 65's Maybe but not a one would grade 66 anywhere, I thick they refer to it as a gift.
I made him an Offer on this one Dave but his counter was to steep. Maybe if I had it in hand.. but it is not the Vam-6b

Quote: Maybe if I had it in hand.. but it is not the Vam-6b Yeah, 6A is a "buy and wait for the hobby to catch up" kinda coin. I've got an EF/AU one on my desk which only shows the mint mark under specific lighting and magnification - you simply cannot see a mint mark with the naked eye - and I suspect that many, if not most, "6B's" are like that. But I can't call it 6B, because I can detect a mint mark. The scanner can't see it, either, but it's there. It's very rare that a Grease Fill forms a perfect flat surface. I've handled a few 1921-D "tru_t" coins, and every single one showed some slight impression of the "s" under magnification.

Dave if it was in a PCGS slab his price is about right. Grey sheet has the S mint 1921 at over 1,000.00 but I still find that over priced for a 1921. With over 80 million 1921 Morgans struck I just cant get my head around a grand for a MS-65. I can make out the mm on this one even with fuzzy photos so great call on the Vam-6a.
NGC of late scares me I have 3 that have to go back for re-slabbing. 1 is a slabbed 1883 O that is a 1881 S and I am sure is not a MS-64 like the slab states more like a 63. The second is that Proof Indent I posted a wile back that they slabbed as a strike thru, 3 letters for WELL KNOWN ERROR dealers will fix that, and the 3rd is a 1878 7/8 STRONG slabbed as a 7tf how that was missed I have no clue. So my faith in them at this point is a bit shaken, all where submitted by me through friends or local dealers. So I know it was not some type of conspiracy. :)

NGC is earning people's lack of faith. MS65 1921-S's are going in the $600 range, with occasional outliers, on Heritage. Nobody on ebay seems to realize they're not as scare in Gem as they used to be; it's one of the more overpriced offerings on the 'bay.

In my opinion, Russ is correct,64-64+, I do not see this as a gem MS65 Morgan, I also do not see this as an "older" slab, just my opinion.......
