I would grade it AG3, stronger reverse. From what I can tell, diagnostically, it looks genuine. $200-250 would be a very good price for this coin.

Surfaces look a bit granular so I'd check carefully for corrosion. I would pass on a corroded copper coin in most cases. Certainly for a key like the 1877 I'd hold out at least for a mid-grade coin (fine or better) that was authenticated by a major TPG. Just my opinion!

The depression below the ear looks a bit odd to me.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too DV. I can't quite tell if it is granular, or just the picture. Anyways, still a decent price.

You know what, I missed that below the ear. If it's PMD, it will be considered a damaged coin. Looks like it wore with circulation. Smooth. Yeah, I honestly cannot tell if granular or, camera setting.

I would try to get a better price than $200. Surfaces look granular to me, and the indent is questionable.

If you just want a hole filler or can't afford a better example jump on it for $200-250.

I agree with Big Bill, the date is hard to come by in any grade for that money. You may regret it some day when you decide you want your set vg or better (or whatever) but there will always be a market for the date so it shouldn't be a problem unloading. Point out the damage and go lower.

It looks better than the one I currently have but at least I can say that my set is complete, lol. I paid $150 for it about 8 years ago.

That would be a steal today! cardman06, as stated, I would jump on this coin. There should be NO problem selling it later for an upgrade. Collectors, especially those on a budget, will have no problem buying AG 77's.
