I have 5 sets coming tomorrow, but I will not be available to take delivery until Friday. Here is my quandary, I want a single set, but selling them all unsealed makes them all collectively worth more. In addition, with the extra money I could buy some nice Morgans for my collection, maybe a 1909 VDB S, complete my Walking Liberty collection etc. I am trying to figure out if the price has gotten so far out there that other numismatic pieces have more value?

Well Shoot..... I received my sets today. I have to say that I am not really happy with the way the Mint packaged these. The only padding was the brown paper under and on top of the sets. Nothing on the sides. The box was pretty banged up and when I opened it, two sets were damaged, one was the outer sleeve only and the other was both the outer sleeve and box. the wooden box the coins are actually in was undamaged. All of the coins in all five sets had popped out of the holder and in one set, one coin had not only popped out of the holder, but popped out of the capsule as well and had bounced around. So far it looks as if there is no damage to the coin. It wasn't one of the special coins though. One of the coins in the damaged box (Uncirculated - no mint mark), has remnants of the green polish left on it. All in all though, I'm happy my sets arrived since they were sent via USPS to my military address and didn't take 2 months.

What is the early release cut-off date for NGC? Also you can opt for or opt out of the early release designation, how important is that, I'm guessing what does it matter, just that they were graded within that cut off date I guess?

Nobis, why not sell the five sets and buy one back. You should still get the full profit on the four you "net sell". You might do even better selling five unopened and buying one opened set.
everything, coins have to be received by NGC on or before Thursday, December 08 to receive the ER labels. Before that date you can tell them not to use it if you don't want it.
twitch, the green polish? Coins are not polished and bullion coins (uncirculated coins have a mint mark) are not even made using polished planchets. It might be grease from the press.

GR8, I can NOT believe you were allowed the chance to do what you did, I was always under the immpression that once someone's card was rejected, it was done, next person, cancel the order.
You are a lucky person......Enjoy the set(s)...

Hi Clair, You are correct, it's the bullion coin. I'm at work and really didn't look at it that hard. I called it polish because I wasn't sure what is was.

The Mint will email you if your CC is no good, and give you a few days to correct the problem. At least that's what their suppose to do. But I think the best thing to do is keep checking your status. That's probably the quickest way to find a problem. Then just call. I'm happy to hear some nerves are settled! It is a amazing set. I hope everyone gets one who still is waiting. I'm thinking of throwing a sealed set up for 2K. Just to see if it sells. Question I didn't repackage the mint box, just forwarded it to the buyer. But the clerk at the post office, used USPS Tape to secure the box, taping over the mints tape. Do you think this would cause a problem for the buyer if he sends for grading (NGC, PCGS) I also don't want a problem if I decide to send a sealed set in. It was a lot easier to take off the mint sticker and scratch out the other labels. I almost fell over when she taped up the box, she did it so quick before I could let out the loud gasp. She had already had 3 layers. Then I shrugged it off and said it'll be alright....I hope.

amassey: I think the sealed box will still be OK to send in for grading. Even though the USPS tape is over the mints, the box is still sealed and will have your order acknowledgement inside the box.

I think forwarding the box direct to a buyer is asking for trouble and putting tape over the tape just screams "tampered with" I would contact the buyer immediately and notify him that the box is the original from the Mint and not a shipping box from you. This way he won't open the box expecting another box inside. This could make for an ugly return but notifying him now should solve that issue. Regarding the extra tape....nothing you can do now. Just hope it flies with the TPG.... I should also add: if the tape is over tape it probably can be removed by the TPG revealing the sealed box as it was.

If I remember right, the tape that USPS uses for registered mail is paper tape with a water based glue. It should be possible to remove such tape without breaking the underlying seal of the plastic tape. Did the USPS tape completely cover the mint tape along the centerline of the box? If the mint tape is still visible at the box center on both top and bottom (of if the tape covering the center can be easily removed) then it should be clear that the seal is unbroken.

Don't think he said it was Registered Mail but that would explain the need for tape

Quote: He suggested I write the "Director of the Mint" since the people I spoke with can not pass comments back up to the mint. I sent out a lengthy but polite letter on Monday recapping my ordering difficulties and my suggestion for customer pre-sales Who is the "Director of the Mint" these days? And may I ask what address you sent to? Thanks

I was told to send the letter to Director of the Mint, 2799 Reeves Rd., Plainfield, IND 46168. I was told any correspondence sent to Washington would be forwarded to Plainfield, Ind and they would then forward the letter to the Mint. The gentleman I spoke with was a supervisor named "Tom." Since I was not argumentative or hostile on the phone I can only assume that the above address is the way to forward correspondence to the Director. Unfortunately, I do not know who the current director may be.
I just hope my letter gets some action or response. Of course if many more forum members would also offer their opinions then maybe a change for the better may occur.
Had the mint's new $100M ordering process been in use, the improved access would probably have meant a 30 minute sell out, or quicker.

Quote: I explained my ordering difficulties and offered a suggestion that the mint somehow allow pre-sales to customers with active subscriptions to reward customer loyalty, The Idea Sounds good on the surface,BUT I believe that Coin Vault, HSN, and all the other Big boys have VERY active Subscriptions and customer loyalty. More than you or I could ever afford. There for they should get better treatment then the average Joe?

I think the mint box should have been put inside another box just for this reason. I am not sure how the TPG's will handle this but I am just guessing that if they wanted to they could reject the other 3 coins because of it, because they will not know if the tape underneath is still actually still sealed or not. I believe if I was a buyer I would have a problem with this as well and would probably demand a refund. I am not sure how you got the sticker off either because mine was under the mint tape on both of my boxes but I would have just took a sharpie or razor and cut out that part of the label carefully instead of removing it completely. But back to the tape on the box, in my opinion the4 TPG's will have a problem with this and I will be very surprised if they don't and as I said I wouldn't be willing to take the chance if I was the buyer. Even if you weren't going to put the box into another box I think it should have been wrapped up with that shipping brown paper at the very least Quote: The Mint will email you if your CC is no good, and give you a few days to correct the problem I had a credit card rejected once because of the limit and I never received a email, I just got my order cancelled and the next person in line got the set. I have never heard of anyone getting an email because it was rejected, unless it was a cancellation letter saying you lost out and I have to agree that GR8 was very lucky they allowed this
