Too much light on it, I don't think it pic accurately shows the coin. Also, how about a white background so we can guage the white balance.

I would go AU-55, but I agree, tone down the lighting and perhaps a white or beige background would provide better contrast and help with grading.

Much better....use a white piece of copy/printer paper for the background next time. Calibrate your white balance to the light setup and shoot. It really makes a huge difference. Your pics are quite nice and just need that small tweek to become excellent.
AU-63RB NICE COIN!

Quote: AU-63RB NICE COIN! ? I'm seeing what looks like rub on the high points (cheek), which makes me think AU. On the other hand, that could be from something other than rub. I also see that the field is very clean, which makes me think MS. BadThad's assessment I'm sure is a typo, but with the variable postings of either AU or MS depending on the lighting, can someone shed a little more info behind their grading? I'm finding this one tough to call.

You're correct, it's a TOUGH call, especially from pictures. My grade opinion is not a typo....it is just something we say to show the coin is a slider...meaning it could go AU or MS with a TPG. Rub is not always equal to wear, it is sometimes forgiven for various reasons the main one being a comparison of BOTH sides of the coin. Another thing I look at is the rims, they are the first place to show wear. The rims look MS to me from the pictures. I also look at the wheat grains (no so much the lines), the grains can often reveal wear. The grains on this coin (and the lines) look unworn IMO. Have a look at the PCGS photograde pictures. Specifically, look at the MS63 Lincoln and I think you'll see something suprizing: http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/Lincoln/Grades

Thanks for posting a reply BadThad. Very good info. I've been impressed at your grading standards for Lincoln cents, I have learned a lot from reading what you post. These sliders are always a pain for me to grade.
To the OP - great coin! Would love to own it.
