I just got this 1872 2 cent back from Anacs. It was originally discussed here: https://goccf.com/t/93644&SearchTerms=1872It came back as an MS-62 RB double die obverse. I'm having a hard time finding comparables for it & am hoping someone here might be able to help with a value.

You have a great coin! If ANACS attributed the DDO as FS-02-1872-101 it adds about $100 to the coin's value. That is chump change when you look at the overall worth of anywhere from $3000 - $4000 retail based on NGC and PCGS guidance. What a great coin to be one of the anchors of a Type Set!

Last year, Heritage sold two Brown MS-62's within a month of each other. The NGC 62 went for $3450. It was an abysmal strike. The PCGS 62, a DDO, went for 3880. Your coin, being RB, should likely eclipse the PCGS coin somewhat.

Although I am not a fan of the series, that's a nice coin!

Congratulations! That is a beautiful coin. I am a sucker for the oddball denominations, so I really like 2 cent pieces.

When I got this coin I was under the impression it was a proof. The die cracks on the reverse made me wonder, but in this condition it seemed unlikely it could be a business strike. I was extremely surprised to get it back as an MS. This one may be going to Heritage....anyone know what kind of fees they charge?

Most of the load is on the buyer. It's remarkably hard to find information about the seller's load; I found only two quotes anywhere (neither on the Heritage site itself) - one was 7%, the other 10%. Contact them directly. This is most definitely a Heritage coin if you want to maximize your return.

I'm really torn on this one. I got this coin through my antique biz when I purchased most of a collection. If I sell I have to pay taxes. I haven't checked with my accountant, but I think I can move it from inventory into my personal collection as long as I take the cost of the coin off my inventory expense. I'd still have to pay taxes when I sold but I'd get to enjoy it as long as I wanted.
