What's the thoughts on a grade for my 1909-S Indian? The pics I took make it look very cloudy all around, but it doesn't look that way in hand. Is this indicative of it having been cleaned? If so, would it be worth it to send it to NGC / NCS for conservation? Could they do anything to improve it?

All input is appreciated.

I am thinking AU53 on this one. It looks very nice. I don't know what NGC would do with it, it is hard to say.

Looks AU to me, although hard to tell fully because of the toning. Looks to have "environmental damage" which is what TPG call improper/destructive toning. This coin looks to have been improperly stored which has caused the blue toning.

Looks like a couple small pits on the shield but other than that, the coin appears to have been polished. Does anyone else see that. Tough coin okiepb and nice 1877 BTW. Are you working on this set?

Yeah, it does seem like it may have been cleaned at some point. Nice pickups of both of the keys!

I agree that it looks cleaned, polished and retoned.
Which is a shame because it is high grade and obviously didn't need the work.
Still highly desirable non the less.

I agree with upstate, looks to be polished and retoned, but still has an AU look.

Yes, I am working (slowly) on a set of Indians. I wanted to get some of the keys before they got more expensive. I'd like to do somthing with this one to make it look not polished, but not sure what. Does anyone think that NCS could "save" this one? I'd hate to try something on it myself and do further damage.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to reverse a polishing/cleaning. NCS may remove the blueish toning and maybe some of the reverse blotchiness.
