As I mentioned in this post, I just picked up an 1843 Seated Liberty dollar. And that was the final coin I needed for my Dansco 7070 "U.S. Type Major Coins from 1800" Album! When I first started working on my type collection, I had never even heard of a Dansco album before. I was simply trying to amass one decent example of every major historical U.S. coin. I drew the line at 1800, simply because the prices seemed to get astronomical once you got before then. I also decided to skip gold coins for the same reason. At first, I just kept the coins separated in a plastic box with dividers. As I started learning about all the different types of coins out there, though (including 3-cent nickels, Half Cents, Two Cent coins, etc.), I realized I needed some better way to organize my collection. And so I did a Google search on "coin type set album" and learned about the Dansco albums. At first, though, I couldn't tell exactly what coins were represented in the album, so I kept digging until I found this thread. Which is, incidentally, how I found this site in the first place... Anyway, a lot of my type coins are more worn than I would like (especially the older ones) and some have been improperly cleaned in the past, but that's OK. It gives me something to work on. In the meantime, though, it just feels so indescribably good to flip the pages and see every single hole filled in and now that I am looking at a (relatively) complete survey of American numismatic history for the last 200 years.

Photographs? How did you find out about those? I swear, I was drunk at the time and had no idea what was going on...
Oh, wait. Do you mean you want to see photos of the coins in my album? If so, I'll have to see what I can do.

Heh. Don't worry -- the joy of having a digital camera means that I just finished taking the pictures and now just have to rotate, crop and upload them. Give me a few minutes...

I lol'd.
Congrats!
Still working on my typeset. It's not a 7070, but along the same lines.

Very nice set! So, this means that there is one less person to compete with in the market to fill their 7070?

Quote: So, this means that there is one less person to compete with in the market to fill their 7070? For the time being (at least, that's what I've promised my wife). As I said, though, eventually I'll probably work to get some better examples of the earlier coins.

Trust me -- my wife will shoot me if I spend more than $20 on another coin for a loooong time...
