Quote: wow! love that rotated die Barber half! Sorry, it rotated while I was taking the plastic out to photograph it and I didn't notice. I put it back the right way when I photographed the other side. I thought of reshooting the obverse, but then I figured nobody would notice...

Awesome accomplishment! At first I thought I'd have to break the news to you that you need a no stars dime yet for 1837 or 1838 and the Half Dime without stars too but there is no hole for them so you did a nice job! I need a Trade dollar and a Seated dollar to complete mine and I would be happy to call it a type set although it isn't a 7070.

Congrats! It looks very nice and thanks for sharing the pictures. I have 4 slots to go (2 Seated dollars, Trade dollar and reeded edge bust half). I have only been working on it for 35 years with a long break in the middle. Hopefully, I will get there in a year or two.

Another round of applause. Tough accomplishment.
I hope one day to be able to start a thread with the exact same title.

Very Nice. The 7070 is definitely a tough one. Congrats on the accomplishment! Quote: I thought of reshooting the obverse, but then I figured nobody would notice.. Heh, you forget where you are...There are a bunch of astute observers here!

Wow, I have to say I'm a little overwhelmed by everybody's reaction. I honestly didn't think this was that much of an accomplishment, simply because so many of my older coins are pretty beat up, worn and/or improperly cleaned. I mean, it's REALLY great to have a complete set, but I do feel bad that I couldn't afford some better examples. I guess that's the "what next" that people keep asking about. Not only better examples of the early dollars and large cents, but I'd really like to get a really sharp Barber half and quarter, for example. Maybe even a full head Standing Liberty quarter. The only problem, of course, is that if I ever do decide to pony up the cash for really nice examples, am I going to be willing to stick them in the album or will I feel the need to leave them slabbed for investment purposes? I guess I'll burn that bridge when I come to it... For those of you trying to complete your own type set, btw, all I can say is that ebay really is a great place to find raw coins at decent prices. I would really hesitate buying raw investment grade coins there, since you never know if a coin has been cleaned or altered, but if your just looking for halfway decent type examples like the ones I ended up with, you can find nearly every coin in the 7070 album for under $100 apiece (many for much less, of course). Of all the coins in my set, I think only 3 cost me over $100 (the Draped Bust Large Cent and the two Seated Liberty dollars and, even then, I got the older Seated Liberty dollar for just $202). If you have a budget of, say $100 per month, you could probably fill up a 7070 album within a year if you spend the time to look for deals on ebay. You just can't be too picky...
