Nice set.

Quote:
For those of you trying to complete your own type set, btw, all I can say is that ebay really is a great place to find raw coins at decent prices.

Oddly enough if anyone ever wanted to just blow the money all at one time, some of the larger coin shows could produce all the coins for a type set in one shot. I've even seen complete type sets for sale at coin shows.
I tried to make a 20th centure type set once but keep forgetting to upgrade the coins.
If you do upgrade, then what do you do with the ones coming out?

I suppose I could try to resell them on ebay or elsewhere (here, perhaps), but more than likely I would just add them to my stash of loose coins. Then, I could someday present them to my son for his own collection if he doesn't want to wait until I die and he inherits it all...

I started doing that a long, long time ago. Now have 9 of those 2 row Whitman boxes full of 2x2's. All the duplicates taken out of Albums.

I honestly didn't think this was that much of an accomplishment, simply because so many of my older coins are pretty beat up, worn and/or improperly cleaned.
Completing the 7070, in any grade, is a worthy accomplishment. Believe me, my set is far from high-end and it is still not done. Sometimes just finding the low price, low end coin is just as difficult as the ponying up big cash for the good stuff.

Yeah, well, thank heavens I didn't get the album with slots for gold coins, or else I would probably never get the darn thing finished...

When I bought my 7070 (in 1993) I do not even think the gold page was an option. If it was, I did not know about it (thankfully). Take a look at my album, versus yours, and look at the differences. Interesting how it has changed. For the record, I updated my Bicentennial/Modern Coinage page so it looks newer (my original page just had the three bicentennial coins and the SBA).

Some really nice coins in that album, jbuck! I note that the names have changed a bit over time ("Turban Head"?) Good luck filling those remaining holes!

Thank you!

Also notice how information for each coin is printed above and below my holes, while it has moved to be below your holes.

Congratulations on your set. I'm still working on mine & have 15 holes to fill. It's been pretty slow progress but I'm trying not to put coins in I'll have to upgrade.

I thought the 7070 was a challenging set until a few months ago. In an estate collection I bought earlier this year there was a 2 album set from the Library of Coins entitled "Type Set Of U.S. Coins". No gold coins included, the most modern coins are from the 60's & there are a total of 90 holes. Here's the list of Large Cents (which are representative of other coins) needed to fill the album:
1793...Chain
1793...Wreath
1793-1796...Cap
1796-1807
1808-18114
1816-1835
1835-1857

Oh, sure. If you're going to include coins minted prior to 1800, there will certainly be more holes. Holes that will, btw, probably remain empty for a good long time...

I'm not up to the 2 set challenge myself....the 7070 is more than enough for me.

Excellent looking set there Barry ... really appreciate the photos as well (of the coins that is).

I suppose I will enjoy tackling the 7070 someday ... for now I am enjoying looking at your accomplishment.

Wishing for you many happy years of upgrading and tinkering with the coins ... it's what we all do.

Thanks for sharing.

Awesome set barryg! Congrats! Like you, I had no clue as to what a "7070" was a until I found CCF.

2+ years later...I now only have 2 holes left to fill.

(both Seated Liberty dollars btw)...

I've upgraded quite a few holes while in the process of attempting to fill it. Something I promised myself that I would NOT do...lol

In the world of coin collecting...my first love is Lincoln Cents...but my "mistress" is my 7070.

Congrats on completing the set. Looks like a nice set to me.

Don't worry about wanting some of the coins to be better.

Even if we had the money to put together a complete 7070 set, in uncirculated coins,
we would still say ... I want some of them better

Good job compelting a hard set to put together in any grade
