I know nothing about VAM's and this is my GF's coin....sadly... but what should I be looking for? Sorry about the pics but it's the best I could do tonight. I see something in her ear, a W..? Something under the eagle's throat and a curved die crack abouve the O and under the wreath. Mean anything?

I may be BRASH, But i see the clash over the CAP, A CLUE for an E CLASHED coin, and the die crack above your mintmark..how ever a full crack over the mint mark is a sure sign of. the Vam36A e CLASH that has the E clash has been removed from polishing by the mint to restore defects in the coins DIE,,,This then reverts back to VAM 36, opposed to the VAM36A which has the E clash...which I can not see in your blown up photo's of the E clash...the die was polished and the E was erased...so it reverted back to VAM 36 ,I have one.. but I encourage all others to Give there input.....as they examine the pictures you have...Nice coin perhaps an MS63 coin... let others chime in...Gene

Thanks for the info! I had a little trouble following it tho ;). If I understood you correctly, this is possibly a VAM 36 due to the mint polishing the die to eliminate the E clash? Where would the E clash be? What clash would be over the cap?

I agree with aladinslamp, but I am very new to the study of VAM's. When I see a coin like this I go to VAM world and look through all the examples hoping to find one that matches. http://www.vamworld.com/Morgan+VAMs+By+DateAlso read through SuperDaves post "what is a VAM" The Die chip in the ear and the die crack above the mint mark on this coin are good markers.

Nice find. I'm not sure what the value of the coin is with the "E" polished out of the die but it's still a great find. The E clash Morgans are one of my favorites. Make sure you save the VAMworld website to your favorites. Now that you have started I'm sure you'll be hooked!

The E clash would have been above/left the bow, between the bow the first set of leaves in the wreath and the tail feathers, with the crack many "E" clashes have been polished away, yet VAM world note's there coin to have an E in there photo's, where My coin is so faint it's not strong enough to be attributed as a 36A...it is possible you could have one... As Goldrush points out the die chips(looks near like an M) Is a great pick up point for the VAM 36A, with the crack, one still needs the "E" to get the A LOL....vam36A let us know what you find...I can't tell from your photo's

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I'll dig it out again pretty soon and give it a closer look. As far as the VAMworld site......gooooooood laaaawwd! That place is insane! How on earth do you keep track of all of the subtle differences?

Just begin with the coins you have, and don't research all of them at the same time...information overload...learn what you can for the specific year and its differences with the coin you have..take what you can and move on.. just like anything, over time it sinks in...

Looks like it could be a VAM 1H? At least this time I REALIZE this is an old thread, but thought maybe it could be 1H instead of 36.
