I know that the nickel had a very low mintage for the 2009-P, and they sell at a good premium, at least for uncirculated examples. Has anyone tried looking through rolls from the bank to see if circulated ones turn up?

I have plenty - five+ rolls worth I pulled from circulation. They're not actually scarce at all in spite of the low mintage.

Wow, they turn up more often than I thought. There is someone on ebay selling rolls of circ. 2009-P nickels for between 10-15 bucks and so people are even buying them in circ.

I should probably unload my extra rolls while the mania is still going on.

They're not too rare; other than roll-searching I occasionally find them in circulation.

I have found one roll from roll searching in Buffalo NY it depends on where you are. Some places people still have difficulty finding them. Maybe down the road it will be worth it to hold onto some nice AU examples

I am a cashier and a roll searcher and have yet to see one. 5 rolls from circulation is amazing.

I've searched 800 rolls and found ONE (not one roll, just one coin). They just aren't here. I'm in Albany, so maybe upstate NY has no supply.

I rarely see ANY 2009 coins in circulation even tho they're only 2 years old. The mint halted production early in the year. Production figures for 2009 Jefferson nickels, 39.36 million from Denver 39.84 million from Philadelphia A total of 79.20 million 2009 nickels. In contrast, 640.6 million nickels were minted in 2008 which was about half of what they minted in 2007 (1.1 billion). That is an 87.6 percent reduction from 2008 to 2009. The last time a U.S. nickel had such a low combined mintage was in 1951. When ever I find a 2009 coin in change I keep it.

I don't see much of a shortage of 2009 dimes either. One thing I do find to be scarce are 2009 cents. I see very few, and none of LP4.
I'm really surprised that people have that much trouble with the nickels. I have a dozen or so 2009-D, and I'm on the east coast, so they had to arrive here by circulation. I would think the 2009-P would have gotten around to some of you folks by now.

I have gone through 1,650 rolls of nickels and have only found 4 2009 P nickels. They are very scarce here in California. At the same time those rolls produced 245 2009 D nickels.

Earlier this year a Coin World advertiser was offering 1 roll unc 2000P & 1 roll unc 2000D for $139. Absurd.
