Some background...

https://goccf.com/t/81663&whichpage=2#675931

This weekend I finally visited the H.L. Hunley in N. Charleston. Lt. George Dixon's $20 gold coin is on display inside the area where the Hunley is located. (Of course, no photographs are permitted in this area, sorry.)

I must say, it was amazing to see these things with my own eyes. I do not know how long I stared at the coin, as I was lost in the experience. It was incredible site, knowing the history and the legend.

I was tempted to buy one of the replicas just to have something to show you guys. There was a replica on display out front, but it was difficult to get a good photograph. If anyone has seen how the real coin is displayed (versus the replica) should know what I mean.

Yes, seeing the Hunley was pretty amazing as well.

Very very interesting story ...

I bet that really hurt Dixon's leg, when the bullet hit that coin!

I can only imagine how it felt to have been that lady .. finding the coin on the sub.

Not as much as it would have if it had missed the coin.

Neat story! Not very often does being bent, worn, and scratched ADD to the coins value!
