I just won what looks like a beautiful commemorative half- but I wonder if this is a fake slab.

Please help...

According to PCGS, it's legit.

Vermontisum- I tried to locate it on the PCGS price guide but can't find the number referenced on the slab. Did they change their numbering system. This is why I'm concerned.

To be specific.

The coin holder says this is coin 6666.65. 6666 is a 1953-S Franklin half and not a Washington / Carver Commemorative. I'm very worried that this is not a legit PCGS graded coin.

6666 is the coin series, .65 after that is the grade assigned.
So, 6666.65/cert

Thanks for replying guys... however all the information we've dug up points toward this being a Franklin half Slab. That's the coin series and the minted total according to the PCGS Cert Verification screen.

Could have been a slabbing error.

Can't see why someone would fake this... If it is fake, its a pretty good one. If I could fake a slab that well I would put a fake rare coin in it and make $10,000. not $66.

I assume it's a slabbing error as well. But yes the cert does refer to a Franklin half. the mintage figures of the Franklin half match up to the mintage number of the slabbed coin you won.

I just checked four other PCGS coins he has for sale, they all match up. Prob just a slab error. Don't people collect these as well. Could be a double win for ya. Good luck, hope all works out.

the commem half number should have been 9440, I am guessing this is just a "clerical error" as PCGS calls it

do they correct this mistake for free or do they charge you to fix their error?
