I have picked up this coin last Sunday at a coin show. There is a line going through RIBUS (EPLURIBUS) and continues through top of the left wing. Do you think its a veriety or one of many die cracks?
That is a remarkably long die crack. Makes the coin more interesting, in my humble opinion. Also, I thought die cracks were more commonly like a spoke on a wheel (radial) and not like a tire rim (circumfrential) ...but again, not an expert here...
I took another picture of this coin. One thing for sure, this is not a scratch. The line is bulging, there is a small scratch in the middle of M in AMERICA one can compare with. I am not sure I ever saw a die crack to curve like that, does anybody know of any examples were a die crack was curving?
I bet that coin's an absolute blazer with die wear like that.
I have a Mercury dime with a concentric die crack like that. It goes most of the way around the reverse through the legends around the edge, though it's a a finer and harder to see. It's also got cracks spiderwebbing out from the center.
That is most likely two cracks that have intersected each other. The leading edges of the wings are points of inherent weakness in the die design so it is fairly common to find peripheral cracks but those two are a bit longer than what is usually seen.
