On Monday I managed to scrounge $640 in halves from various banks and found a '64 and 7 40%'s. Today I picked up $70 in nickels and found a '44-P & a '45-P. This is the first time I have found more than 1 War Nickel at once in a long time. Tomorrow I plan on scouring all the banks (30+) in my area for halves in hopes of striking SILVER!

As I was returning my pennies to my bank's free coin counter, I filled the bag, so they had to come change it. As they pulled out the machine to change the bag, I see the bag of halves hanging there about half full. I didn't ask if I could root through it, as that would have been weird, but man, I wanted to.
Looking back I guess the worst that they could have said was 'no' but there was someone waiting behind me, so I thought that would be rude.

Last Thursday I managed to get about $1300 in halves from varios banks around town. I scored 2 '64s, 16 40%s and a '71S. Yesterday I got a box of nickels and found a '43P, a '43S, and a '50. One of my better boxes lately.

Got a box of dimes today and went through it in about an hour. Found FOUR! My second best box ever. '59-D, '62-D, '64, & '64-D.

Tuesday I got $50 in nickels and found two dateless buffalos. Today I scrounged up $220 in halves from some small town banks and only got a '65. Better than nothing.

Whats the most amount of money you guys have spent on rolls in 1 day? So far I have only got a box of Quarters ($500). After I get my Coin Counter Machine after X-mas, I was planing on getting $3000 (6 boxes) in Quarters from 4 or 5 banks. Just for fun, I want to see what its like to search through $15,000 in quarters in a week.

Monday, I picked up a box of halves and got a '67 7 a '68. Finished up my $50 in pennies for Dec. Found 29 wheats, two dimes, a Bermuda cent and a 1947 Canadian King George 6th cent. The oldest wheat is a very worn 1918.

I haven't CRH'ed in a few months. Life just got in the way recently. I still have a load of 1/2 from my last hunt. Not sure if anyone else does this, but I like to go to the local convenience store and pay with halves only. I like to watch the reaction I get. I've seen some cashier put the halves off to the side. I assume they'll be pocketing them later. I got $100 in fresh $2 bills from my local bank. They rarely have more than a few sitting around. I was pleasantly surprised when the teller asked me if I wanted all $300 she had in her drawer straight from the Fed. The other night while Xmas shopping, I picked up a few things. I paid all in $2s. The cashier, who was a foreigner actually took out one of those markers they use to check for forgeries. I was literally in tears laffing so hard. My gf just rolled her eyes. :) And, today, I went to a liquor store to buy a case of beer. I handed over 2 $2s with a couple other bills. The cashier told me to hold on. He ran over to his manager and asked if he could take them. The manager actually called him an and to take them "they are US currency, idiot!" I laughed all the way home!

bobbyjack- I'm actually surprised that the manager accepted them since there are so many people working in retail who are totally ignorant of coins and currency that are a bit out of the ordinary in general circulation. In fact, I have tried to pay with a couple of bills and a few Sacagaweas before and have had them refused, and in one instance the clerk threatened to call the police.

A cashier in a computer store was suspicious of my Presidential dollar and called the manager. Then again, this month I've received 1909 and 1939 Cents in my change from retail transactions (and a '64-D Dime last month), so it does work to your benefit if they "don't recognize anything unusual" when they're handing you change.

Since Xmas I have searched $100 in nickels & $110 in halves. The nickels were a bust. But the Halves netted me a '64 and 6 40%s.

Last night I searched a box of pennies. I was sad to see that I got many rolls that had already been searched, so nothing was found in many. But the last roll in the box contained a really rusty 1943 steel.

Archraz-- I have been told on numerous occasions but have not verified it "officially" that it is a Federal offense to refuse any legitimate US currency in a retail transaction. If that is 100% true, I would love to be in a situation where someone made a fuss about me passing legit $2 bills or dollar coins. Let them call the police. I would file a complaint against that cashier and the manager. I think my complaint would stick and theirs wouldn't. :)
