What happens to all those returns? Does anyone really think returns from the first shipping will be sent back out in the second shipping of the orders?

The only ones who can really answer this for sure are the mint and the shipping place.

That said they arent supposed to resend them, but personally if theres no damage to anything I think the shipping company will just turn them around and reship at least some of them later on. Its pretty well proven they just kind of do whatever they want and I dont see why this would be any different

I'm still really upset that I placed my multiholder order on 8/11 and other people that ordered after me apparently already have theirs yet I have no confirmation of anything!

There doesn't seem to be much sense to how theyre shipping the orders to be honest. I ordered the PCGS 70 W eagle and then a few days later ordered some commens. Got the commems first almost right away and just finally got the shipping info for the Eagle.

I wonder if theyre waiting for some more multis to get back to them and just sold them already knowing what they would get

The cutoff for FS at PCGS is today. Any opened sets postmarked to them after today or and any sealed sets postmarked from the mint after today are not eligible for FS labels. For whatever reason, the cutoff at NGC is this coming Wednesday, the 29th.

Returned, opened sets (virtually all small customer returns) are sent back to the mint (at least the coins) for disposal. Large unopened returns (probably very rare), like a dealer who decides after the coins ship that they are not wanted, could be returned to stock without issue. If there are enough cancellations, the mint might start offering to replace sets that are returned for quality issues. If they have already purchased blanks and are seeing a high return rate, accompanied by a high cancellation rate, there is no reason for them not to offer to replace low quality sets. Unfortunately, you cannot keep a pristine coin and return an unwanted one, you have to return the entire set.

If they arent replacing quality issue returns this could be one of the first times we see a significant population drop from returns.

On a side note I still havent made up my mind if I still want my 5 raw sets or not for the final shipping date. My cc was compromised that I used for the order and havent updated the info. Does anyone know if the Mint will bother to contact me before canceling the order if they happen to start shipping those early and I havent changed it yet or will they just run it get declined and cancel it?

I don't think you can on being contacted if your CC info is bad. It might happen but it might not so if you want the coins, call and change the info and if you don't want them, go online and cancel the order.

Thats what I figured. I really dont know what I want to do. The ungraded popularity is dieing fast and with the quality issues not sure its worth the effort. Best bets probably to change it and if it ships early before I make a final decision I can always just send it back

Steve,

I wouldn't sweat it. I placed my order one that multi coin slab on the 10th and I just got confirmation of shipment yesterday. They sold more at silvertowne then they had in stock but not more then they have coming from PCGS. No reason to be impatient you will see these beauties before long I am guessing.

While were on the topic of Silvertowne, my 2012 w pcgs 70 eagle arrived. Very happy with it, only complaint was it took quite a while to arrive. But for the price it was worth the wait

So, My nice wooden box is full of SAE proofs and Reverse proofs, no duplicates. It holds 30 slabs. No 1995-w Proof, but every other from 1986-2012.

I might be done collecting SAE proofs.

I think I might just stick to the uncir and special set ones as well. At first I liked the proofs more, now the RP is my favorite but I think I like the uncir more than Proofs now for the ASE

The more time I spend looking at my ASE's ('12SF set, '12 Proof, '12 & '92 bullion, '11 UNC burnished) the more I'm really digging the uncirculated.

Proof sets are what got me into the hobby but I find the proof ASE's kind of boring compared to the others. I'm most surprised by my bullion '12 as it's got great detail and very interesting cartwheel effects.

Last week's spike in silver spurred me on to ordering the '12 uncirculated from the mint. Any ideas on what silver needs to hold before they reprice the silver products?

Devilsbite, et.al., the uncirculated coins have by far the most detailed devices in the series. Since the mint started using the laser on the devices of proof coins, much of the detail there has been lost in order to increase the contrast between the fields and devices. The bullion coins are the best bargain when looking at only the cost versus spot but for only a little more money (especially right before a price increase at the mint) the uncirculated coins offer the use of burnished blanks (which significantly reduce surface defects), sandblasted and hardened die (which provide a consistent soft but detailed finish), and increased strike forces (which bring up the detail a good amount compared to bullion strikes). Also, the individual handling and packaging of the uncirculated coins means that you don't have to buy several to be sure to get a good one. While I really like the uncirculated coins, I have to admit that the latest reverse proof coin is a beauty as well. The level of polish on its devices (all hand done) is astounding. The use of the laser only on the flat fields allows for very high contrast without reducing detail at all.

Thanks Foxwoods, at first the increased percentages surprised me, but with Week 3 totals equalling the first two weeks combined it had to be the result of some big dealer submissions. Maybe ST's multi holder sets accounted for a decent number of them? Now we'll see if NGC cares to share their numbers tomorrow before the ER period runs out.
