Technically, this release is not an anniversary set, nor is it meant to commerate the SF mint as first thought. The mint director has already stated this,

So it isn't an anniversary, and it isn't a commemorate, so exactly why are they making it again? Oh because they want to grab more money from the collectors.

They are making it just because they can! All mintage issues aside, I am a lover and avid collector of these coins. I am SO getting at least two sets!

Looks like the price is going to be $149.95!! Seems like a really high premium to me when silver is $27 bucks and change right now.

Thats a really high premium. Definitely a nice 30 dollar charge for the box. They are really mishandling this set badly like the pucks. 75 dollars a coin is real high.

I would much rather they just release the RP on its own if this is how they are going to do it and what they are going to charge

Where'd you find $150? I think that ,$150 is not likely whatsoever and that I'll be buying a lot of these sets as long as the price isn't more then $130 a set. The higher the price, the less they'll sell, the more the sets are worth. So for all I care make them $200 a set and lets see how much they are in a year. I'd bet more then $300 a set

Mint news blog has it as their top news story. Apparently the Federal register is going to be updated with the pricing of the EG1 set tomorrow.

bb21: remember this is a special set that only commemorates the "lost" opportunity to make boo-koo bucks, as the Mint totally missed that train back on 10-25-11. The price is high because they have created the "impression" of a highly desirable scarce product, that's simply riding on the coattails of the truly scarce A25 set. An open window will give everyone a chance to order what they please, so in the end there might be too many EG1 sets minted than there is real demand for it. Think of it this way: for virtually the same amount of money, you can get a bullion puck with 5oz of silver, or 2oz. of "specialty" silver. I am not sure if I'll be ordering this now, will wait and see what the pre order numbers are during the last week of June or on July 2nd.

yea I just saw the price of 149.95 the mint will make a killing on this regardless of the high price, just makes me want to sit and wait till like july 2nd or so to actually buy it unless of course silver spikes up to like 35 an ounce. Not sure what I'm going do yet

Sorry everyone! I meant to post the link to the source on my last post, but got in a hurry and forgot it. I guess the info on this website isn't "gospel" because the mint has not released the price yet, but I'll bet they're right. The mint is cutting a pretty fat hog @ $150.00 per set!!

Also for what its worth that means per coin this is the most expensive set theyve released which is just sad compared to the 20th and 25th that actually did have something special about how limited they were

At $150 I have very little interest and will likely pass. I understand paying a premium but not that much for a set that will be minted to demand. I can't see there being much price appreciation over the next 10 years at that rate.

Im so torn on what to do with this set now. I do want one, but I dont like the price and feel like this will be highly over minted. Maybe ill just get a graded set for the collection and be done with it

Price gouging 101

The number of coins included, size of packaging, and therefore (it should be) overall cost of production are all 40% of the 2011 set. Therefore the 2012 issue price should follow suit and be 40% of the 2011's issue price of 300.00 or 120.00.

So either their production manager changed from last year and it cost them 30.00 more to make these smaller sets, or they simply decided to make an extra 30.00 profit per set since they know people will buy these. Do you remember the questionnaires they sent out last year to determine this?

They underestimated last years 2011 set -- especially the reverse proof. And it appears they want to make sure to fatten their purses this time at the buyers' expense.

Another factor to consider in the cost is that the larger a production run, the smaller the cost per unit becomes. There is no limit to the number of these they will make. Production costs should be lower -- but they will pocket the difference.

Just my opinion from available data - maybe there is something I am missing here?

Dont think you are. Theyre just trying to make as much as possible and probably charging like 20 or 30 bucks for the fancy box no one wants for a mint to demand set anyway.

To make it even better I'm sure itll take 3 months to get the set anyway
