I'm sure the goal was not to pay $200 for each set of 69's...the goal was MAYBE to get a 70 set or two or three out of the bunch. It just didn't work out that way.
Buying a 69 set kinda eliminates any chance of you getting a 70 set in the mail....
Everyone is commenting that NGC is so loose but I sent in 8 proofs and only got 2 70's back....and it really doesn't make much sense to even comment on this set's 70 percentages until there is actually some data to comment on.

I understand the historical perspective of PCGS being tougher than NGC and thus more valuable, however I feel the ASE series is an exception to that. On this series I think: PCGS to flip, NGC to hold.

If the goal was to have a 70 set for a collection, You're almost always better of just buying a set from a dealer. The dealer prices for 70 sets were fairly reasonable when it was becoming clear that fewer of these sets were graded 70 than expected. If the goal is to make money, PCGS higher fees make it more difficult. Quote: Everyone is commenting that NGC is so loose but I sent in 8 proofs and only got 2 70's back That's the luck of the draw. Someone I know, sent in 5 A25 sets to NGC and they all came back as 69. It was little consolation to him that nearly 70% of the coins were graded 70. I actually think that it doesn't matter that NGC is slightly looser than PCGS. As long as they are consistent. For all we know, the last batches from the mint could all be 70.

Right on the nose there I feel NGC is more consistent but that is purely a subjective opinion. I will not waste my money sending coins to PCGS but I WILL buy their 70 sets if they are priced right. I did buy quite a few of the SF 70 sets (Flag & Mercanti)at $229. I do submit to NGC and I have found them to be very fair. I didn't do well on this submission but that has to do with the quality of the first group. I just wish they would get off their butts and put the POP numbers in so everyone can get a feel of what's going on.

Thanks! I used my Nikon S9100 in Close Up scene mode. It was late in the day, my deck is on the East side of my house so I was shaded from direct sunlight. Got kind of lucky, especially with the RP, with how the leaves were reflected.

I love the gold tinges in these pictures. It really makes them look good! I am still waiting anxiously for my sets.

So looks like NGC posted their census for these coins. Regular proof 49% came in as PF70. Reverse proof 52%. Total graded 30,468 and 25.345. Regular proofs from the coin and currency set got 43% in top grade.

Quote: Whats that almost double what PCGS did if I remember right Depends on what you are referring to, but either way no. It looks like PCGS percentage of top grade is about 34% for each. And if you add all of 70 and 69 graded coins, it's about 10.5K of each. Meaning NGC did about 2.5X the volume.

I dont think volume really matters. If you have more because you graded more thats to be expected. But 34 is significantly lower than 48 or 52

Quote: But 34 is significantly lower than 48 or 52 It is. But keep 2 things in mind. It's roughly inline with typical differences between PCGS and NGC. Also, it's not done yet. There are coins that haven't shipped from the mint yet. These percentage could shift, as more coins are submitted.
