Is there any talk of toning down the mirroring on the proofs to try and fix that problem at all or are we likely to see more problem coins going forwards as the mirror gets stronger and stronger exposing every miniscule mark

Actually I didn't see problems in the mirror field. Only in the frosted fields of the RP.

Really I've seen a lot where it was the mirror fields. I got 1 in a coin and currency set that looked like someone had just sat there and hacked it

Geez, and all those hundreds of thousands of ASE proofs over the years. Sounds like handling issues at that.

With the 2012S's the problems I saw were in the frosted fields of the RP's as indicated by Clint. The ones I sent back for replacement had incomplete frosting (i.e., small mirrored spots in the middle of the frosted areas). PG

And, as with probably all of you, I've seen hundreds of bullion ASEs with nothing of the sort. Just beautiful fields of cartwheeling shimmery silver goodness, from proof-like in the late-'80s to matte finish in the present. None of those flecks missing. Now, why is that? The TPGs have said those imperfections do NOT disqualify from getting graded as 70s. And why is THAT? Similarly, I stopped at an LCS to buy an unc SSB $1, and all three had dings in the field, obvious without magnification. So I bought one from the mint, and same thing. What gives? Who hasn't heard this: "Now that everything is so ultra-modern, 99% of the coins we produce will be virtually perfect." I think the opposite is true. If they pull this business on the ATB pucks, which have looked gorgeous so far, I'll definitely bail on that series. Rant off, but my ears are open...

Excellent observation Clint, That is exactly what I have personally observed, frosted devices with "specks" of the mirror finish showing through, like a lighthouse beacon off in the night, stands out for ALL to see...

I have NOT seen any dings or scratches in the fields at all on the 2012 SF Sets!!!!!

I also wonder IF this is an example of modern technology, I will pass, and I thought I read the TPG'S are NOT disqualifying these specks from a 70 grade, Whats that all about, I thought an MS-70 Graded coin, was Perfect, or an example of a "perfect" coin!!!!!

I do think that while looking at a coin and in spots on the frosted devices you were to see specks of the mirror finish, would indicate NOT a " Perfect " coin, Just My Opinion!!!!!

Latest numbers from PCGS show little change in the percentages:

..proof 33% 70's...reverse proof 33.7% 70's

(with one RP64 & two RP65's ugh!)

Right around 11,000 sets graded

Paradise Mint just listed preorders for the Coin and Currency proof PF70 in the retro black core holder. NGC is much more plentiful than PCGS, but I wonder how the C&C numbers will shake out when all is said and done?

I would lose it if I sent a sealed box in and got back a 64

To add insult to injury those numbers are for the SF set that were not submitted in sealed boxes...so there is a real possibility that someone looked over the coin and said "Perfect RP70...this one's going to NGC"...duh! 64

PCGS not NGC --- NGCs are 50% plus 70 You Probably won't find NGC grading any of these 64

If thats not a sign you need to look at more coins before self submitting I dont know what is.

My two remaining orders, which were sitting with the 10/31 ship date, just changed to 9/28 (this coming Friday). The cancel boxes are still there so we'll just to have to wait and see if they go "in stock and reserved" anytime soon. My last order was entered with less than 90 minutes remaining.

Mine, too... I guess the final mintage will be considerably lower than 251k considering all the cancellations.
