Hopefully that wont be the norm. Sorry to hear about your later set but if they are all like that ill be making a trip to the post office to send mine back when they arrive. If they keep the RP going (which I kind of hope they do I really like it) hopefully they wont chose the SF mint

I guess the question is, with all of the cancellations, are the first 9/28 sets shipping from a second strike or do they come from the original mintage? If the latter is a possibility we should keep an eye open for a sudden change in quality. Since none of these sets qualify for FS/ER labels and since they can still get set labels even if opened (as long as both coins are sent in together) there is no harm done to open and examine them for quality. I opened one of my first 3 sets (which was, or nearly was, perfect), and I will open all four of my last sets and report on what I find. I realize that there is little or no reason to keep the early sets sealed (from a profit point of view) but since they can always get FS labels and since I will have plenty of sets to open soon, there is no compelling force weighing on me to open them.

That is a good point. Its very likely that at least some of the shipment has come from canceled orders. I cant imagine they would just melt the canceled coins and strike new ones when orders still havent been sent out.

I really do not like the idea of the topic, although in reality, they will be sent out, just to who!!!!!! I hope the latest batch, is of better quality then the first shipped coins, although for all We know, the 2nd batch was/is sitting on the Mint's floor somewhere for months, and they will be shipped soon.....Cynical yes, probable, could be. Think about that.
I also ordered at 12:39 am the last day and on line I see to be shipped changed from 10/31 to 9/28, and no C C activity?

Cynical maybe, just kind of the reality of things. Theyre in the business of making money, melting down unopened products to restrike isn't how you do that. I actually dont have a problem at all with them sending out sets that were canceled before shipped. The problem would be if they reshipped returned sets which unfortunately short of getting a top level job at the mint or the shipping company well never know the answer to that question

My CC was hit a couple weeks ago w/ 2x transactions in the range of $50 for Boost Mobile & Metro PCS payment. I called my CC and told them I've never used those service and got refunded and a replacement CC in about 2 weeks.

My order did changed to ship date 9/28 but still on back order and nothing shipped yet.

Our CC company called us with the potential bogus transaction as it was happening and while on the phone another one came in and was denied on the spot. They cancelled the card right there and we had a new card the next day via UPS overnight.

It actually seems unlikely that any current shipments are of coins from the first strike. They would not wait to ship simply because of a stated ship date. Any available stock would ship out to the the next person in line and any gap in shipments should have come from a gap in stock. It looks like the mint will meet the prediction they posted on the day after sales concluded, just before they took the page offline, that shipments should conclude mid-October.

Very true, but if they had 100 or so canceled orders near the end of the first shipment its not unreasonable to think that at least some of those could have carried over to people who had a later ship date. I agree though they wont hold anything itll just go to the next person regardless of when theirs were supposed to ship.

I almost wish they did have an option to select not to ship before your initial told ship month if you didnt want just because I know a lot of people order thinking they wont have to pay till that date and if it gets bumped up a month of two unexpectedly its nice to get it earlier, but can do some damage to the CC balance if you werent expecting to get them and didnt leave room just in c ASE

There has been massive increase in CC fraud lately. Just this year, I've had unauthorized charges on three different cards, and last month I received two replacement cards for different accounts with a letter stating that there was a "potential" breach. In the old days my account number didn't change for decades, but I got a brand new piece of plastic every year. Now I get a card that is supposed to remain valid for 3-4 years, but I'm lucky if it lasts 9 months because of fraud.

Unfortunately, it's bound to get much worse. Payment industry is intent on creating new products that are inherently less secure and is completely ignoring security on existing products.

I received my last set on Friday. The normal proof looks great, on the reverse proof I can see several bright specks in the frosting between the sun's rays and couple of more on the right hand side of the coin when I move the coin around under a light. The reverse side of this coin looks perfect to me.

Teach, Do you think you received a 1st of the newer shipped coins or an earlier struck coin, just returned, we will never know? I hope you enjoy your new coins, I also hope the " newer batch are struck better than the previously shipped ones"!!! JMO.

Got some terrible pictures of the proof obverse and they show a rather lager spot just in front of the I in LIBERTY.

Here's a close up.

It's a bit disappointing considering the other ASEs I've gotten from the mint look great. I'd be all over an RP with the W mint mark.

You sure that isn't a bubble in the plastic? If you notice, anything on the coin is reflected multiple times in your image, but your spot is not. Clear plastic is notorious for having flaws in it that look like they are on the coin but in reality are in the holder.

Morgans Dad - I have no idea when these coins were struck. I made this order for the last set in early July, you know the ones that were not to ship until the end of Oct. and then they arrive a month early. For the most part I really like these coins, but those specks on the RP will make the grade go down I am sure. You can't see them until you move the coin around in the light. They were hard to find with the 10x. Low mintage, can't lose with these, so I am happy.

Open the capsule and examine the coin directly to see if the spot is really there. I always do this for my new coins so I can photograph them without all of the distortion and reflections caused by the capsules. Always use lint free cloth and keep the coin in one half of the capsule and keep the other half of the capsule coin side down. Lightly put the capsule back together and flip it over to photograph (or just examine with a loupe) the other face. A little clean air (from a can) makes sure that no lint has entered the capsule before closing it again. Walk your fingers around the capsule edge several times to complete the closure, they can be difficult to get properly closed because they often form an air tight seal before the two halves are fully seated and you have to kind of burp them (like tupperware). When fully closed, there will be no more squeaking and the coin will not rattle at all. This difficulty is the reason that coins often become disloged during shipping. If they weren't fully closed they can work themselves open. When properly closed a slight vacuum is formed that helps keep the capsule closed (again like tupperware).
