I read the US mint site and want to make sure I have this correct. To get these, I just go to the bank and ask for them? They aren't ordered through the mint or anything like that, right?

As far as I can tell from previous posts on this topic, yes, you can ask for them at the bank. Sorry, don't have the time to find the correct thread right now.

That being said, I think it is true that the banks have to actually request them. Most if not all will not do this simply because I think they have to order so many trays. A minimum order if you will. Because of this, and the fact that they won't want the inventory if they can't move it, I think you may find it difficult to find them at every branch.

I have yet to go to a lot of different banks, but the ones that I have inquired at so far will not be getting any in.

Banks will have them after February 15th, but only the George Washingtons to begin with.
Soon to be followed by post office machines and public transportation machines, I'd imagine.

If you want coins like that the best suggestion is to find someone that works in a bank and marry that person, date them, or just get a job in a bank yourself. Bank people know where that stuff is kept and can get you all you want if you know them. However, if you marry someone that works in a bank you may loose all your coin collections during the divorse. Me, I just go to banks a lot and make sure I talk to all the tellers and smile at them so they remember me.

That's wise advise carl, and exactly my approach. I try to stay friendly with our local tellers and ESPECIALLY the branch manager. The branch managers can help a lot just by requesting a particular denomination for his or her branch. I know mine has helped me several times in the past with State Quarter rolls.

I also have not found a bank yet that will be getting them in. Haven't stopped asking yet and even have asked co-workers to check at their banks/credit unions. I'm sure they will be available, just haven't found the right person/bank yet!

I have found with the State Quarters when the US MINT starts to sell a new one that it takes the bank at least one month till then get them. So I would guess it will be the same with the presidents dollars.

I asked my bank and they had no idea what I was talking about. I guess it is allot of trouble for them to do this and they are most likely sick of the State Quarter roll handouts but then that is part of their job to distribute money from the fed reserve banks.
Rest in Peace

I talked with the Manager of my bank, and he had no idea what the Presidential dollars were.

However, I also talked with the Manager of my Credit Union, and she said she had ordered the dollars, and would make a roll or two available for me.

Now, if that happens, I will be glad to supply some to members who would like them. Just have to wait until Fenruary 15 and see what happens.

The tellers at my bank didn't have the slightest idea what I ws talking about. Anyway, since I want to put only uncirculated dollars in my album I will be forced to either go to my local dealer or the monthly coin show to get mine. I just wonder what the dealers are going to be asking for them? It might be cheaper to just order a spare mint set and break out the dollars from that.

You will be able to buy all of these coins that you want directly from the mint, just like the State Quarters. They will be sold in rolls as well as bags. If you really want these, they won't be hard to find.

When you buy from the mint, are you still buying at face value?

Question:" When you buy from the mint, are you still buying at face value?"

No, the mint charges a surcharge on the coins, as well as the postage that is required to mail the package to the buyer.

I asked at my bank and the reply was,"Were not sure what were doing about those yet. They are so expensive."
Minimum order for the banks is $1000. The more people ask the better chance the banks will call them out.

My early impression is that the Presidential coins are going to be just as hot as the State Quarters were when they first started. We've been very surprised by the number of Presidential folders and albums we've been selling, even in late December they were selling like hot cakes. Even more surprising is that the volume 2 folders are selling very well and it'll be several years before they'll be of any use to anyone.
