Well I've caught up with the November deluge, I mean release of coins and all of your comments. Whew! I've also looked through the latest catalogue and perused the website listings. Based on all of this , as well as my feeling that there are just TOO many coins being released, TOO many subscription (new and recycled) coins, and my hurting pocket book, I have decided to boycott the mint this month.

Quote:The Great Lakes subscription & the 1 oz silver Oh Canada are my 1st subscriptions from the RCM & am wondering how they ship the individual coins as far a packaging goes? Probably like other subs - in cardboard.

Thanks CC-Ottawa! Was the capsule protected by bubble wrap or some other kind of cushion. I'm afraid of the capsule arriving looking a bit scuffed up.

Protected by the cardboard. Often in a bubble pack envelope. The mint send out thousands of these packages in 2013 . Not to worry.

I did notice the hole in cardboard to hold it securely but worry about wear marks on capsule during shipping. I once worked for UPS & a shipping dept. for a retailer and packages could see some abuse.

Interesting, why RCM decided to release more Caribou coins to MC? May be they saw, that it started to sell well on ebay ($130-$150) and afraid from "overheating"?

Quote: The 1/4oz whales (life in the north) is kinda plain and looks a lot like other coins that have been issued. I guess not much you can do to make whales look significantly different. Price at 34.95 is reasonable. I really like this coin, too bad it just 1/4 oz but the price is right. I got me one.

But do not forget: this release also covers the December, and the Subscriptions, that they also as "items" cover all the year of 2014. So per my understanding, the choice of people was (for collection) : 1 subscription + 1 coin or 2 coins

I thought I was the only one not buying any coins this month. A lot of them are recyled themes, especially the animal coins. How many caribou, polar bear, beaver coins have the Mint put out over the years? Countless numbers of them. The only dfference is the colorization of them.

I totally agree that the Mint seems to recycle themes over and over, but quite often when they do produce a new coin (especially a simple nicely engraved coin), lots of forum members here bemoan, "I wish it was coloured", "I wish it was a full oz", "I wish was bigger", "I wish it was, well fill in the___". Seems that as a group, we are rarely satisfied - tough crowd. If RCM staff follow these forums, they might take that as a reason to produce a similar albeit slightly different coin. That and the fact the two most recycled themes are the ones awaiting stock.....

Yes, but selling out at the Mint means nothing now because there so many other places to buy the coins we missed out on. The post office usually have them plus all the big dealers like Gatewest, Colonial Acres, Cdn Coin/Currency have them. Not to mention all the local coin shops and part time dealers that are on RFD. And if you missed getting from them, you can get good deals from a lot of ebay sellers who often sell them below cost.

I really like a good presentation & walnut case with 2014 1 oz silver Oh, Canada subscription looks good to me & Great Lakes case looks nice too. Sometimes, I have coins graded & get left with a nice case. The walnut case, I can already envision the new Polar Bear, Caribou & Bateman Moose coins & whatever (many 38 mm coins). I bought 5 sets of 2011 Eagle sets and then had graded-with cases I purchased 5 world 40mm coins raw for the case. You may see on auction someday...

It means the Mint sold 8500 (or close to it) of each. Remember, we are not their only customers. CP, and all those dealers you mentioned are also mint customers. If a coin sells out at the mint, it doesn't really matter (to them) who bought it.
