I am definitely not keen on Dansco album toning, especially for top grade or rare coins. Those coins should be slabbed or encapsulted, depending on your preference. Since there is already a variation on storage and display methods already employed, that should not be a problem.
Perhaps for your efforts, you may be able to keep one or two 'cherries' out of the collection, as a 'thankyou'. Lets hope there is not too much greedy pressure placed on you by others. Just speak very nicely and diplomatically to those around you, truthfully explaining all of the facts, as you see them.

THE only pressure is the daunting task at hand. I don't know exactly what or how much will be going into my collection yet but it will definitely reflect the emense time I'mgoing to spend on it, and you can count this album in!

Not to add more stress to your load, but make sure that Sacagawea isn't a "Cheerios" or "wounded eagle" variety. That would be a nice surprise.

So much fun! To go through a lifelong collection like that is quite a journey. Pace yourself and enjoy!

Incredible ... collected from the 50's and kept everything he ever collected.
The neatest part of that scenario is that there's no telling what he took out of circulation and the coin collecting environ that hasn't seen the light of day for fifty to sixty plus years. Since it sounds like a fair portion of his collection was assembled pre-slab era ... the possibility there are some incredible finds seems almost assured. You may be sitting on a gold mine if he had an eye for the nicer stuff those many years ago when it could be had for pennies on the dollar as compared to its value today.
And if not a gold mine, you're most probably sitting on a bank or small savings and loan at a minimum.

Another thought that comes to mind when thinking of your task at hand and the need to try to inventory and value such a collection. I think I'd invest in a piece of software to help make the effort as productive as possible.
I use CoinManage to keep track of my collection and its reasonably simple to use. It values coins more at an insurance (replacement cost) value, but makes life so much better by allowing you to quickly enter, plug a grade and add to a collection. Then what seems like a blue million reports can be run to sort and analyze one's collection. I'm sure there are others, but this one is a pretty good tool to have at your disposal.
Something to think about as you begin your effort.

Quote: That ike is not painted like seen in broad shot. it's a light golden target type toning. Looks nice to me. (I admit bias) Nice photos, thank you for sharing. May we have some more? (Take your time)

The wonder of reduced sulfur found in old paperboard.
Also good evidence of the time needed to get album toning. Allow 10-20 years for the alum to revert to the reduced state in which it will tarnish metals.

Album is dated 1998... I think these 1998 littleton albums are my new favorites :) the kennedy album has some nice ones just like the ike. Golden monochrome hues seems to be their main effect but obviously can rainbow em too...
...Oh, crap now I'm gonna have to post the Kennedys

I will take the 1987 ASE, please. Thank You. Seriously, this is one of those finds that you can only hope will happen to you once in a lifetime. The collection that came to me last fall seems to be only a fraction of this collection. Man, I hope I can experience this thrill at least one more time.

Ya darth, and just imagine getting a call out of the blue with no inclination it was coming. Being thrust into it and having to make preperations to re adjust your life for the next few months. Good thing I'm in a position to do so after a little rearrangement... But without me this probably would be sold to a dealer at spot or in bulk. Parish the thought! The winds of fate were blowin' ;~)
