I picked this up last night at my first numismatic meeting. Someone passed around a few denarii and although there were a few sharper coins (stunning A.Pius), I had to have this when I found out when it was from. Marc Antony, moving to the east with Cleopatra to fight for the control of the empire against Octavian. This coin likely minted to pay for ships that would be burning hulks at the battle of actium...it could have been a piece of smashed copper and I would have had it if you could positively make that link.

Anyhow, I've been doing some searching and I can find a lot of variations of the 2 standards with the eagle and a few with 3 standards but can't find this one which has what looks like 2 standards and a ships mast (?). If anyone could tell me if it had a particular legionary affiliation and where I might find a picture of a better example that would be great. Obviously any additional info about the coin gratefully accepted.

It is a Mark Antony Denarius and it is a legionary issue according to the design. Unfortunately it appears that where the Legion Markings are supposed to be has been worn away which was either below or separated by the Middle Standard.

In terms of value a quick CNG search turned up the following coin similar in design however far different in terms of quality

By the way which numismatic meeting was it? The Sydney one at Nobles? Curious as I am young and haven't attended one previously.

It was here in Adelaide, they hold it at the state library. Apparently we're hosting the next national conference if you're interested. There's going to be a tour of the museums collection which includes some of Australia's rarest coins including some Adelaide assay office stuff. I'm relatively young (under 30) abdomen although I'm younger than most of the people there it was a very friendly and helpful group. I'll definitely be joining. I don't really know about the other state organizations but if they're anything like here I'd highly recommend it. There's only so much you can find online and it's nice to have an actual conversion with other people who have the bug.

Regarding the coin, I've seen similar examples with the eagle between the standards but I'm hoping to find an example that'd the same as mine with the ships mast so I can find out if it has a legionary inscription. Google images has plenty of variations but not this one (that I can see).

I have had a look through Wildwinds and a couple of other sources but they all seem to be with the Eagle as such I would suspect this wouldn't be affiliated to a legion but a naval auxiliary of some type. This is speculatory only tho the obverse does fit the time period of 32-31BC similar to the Legionary issues.

Regardless I believe it would be close to impossible to conclusively determine who struck this without someone who knows the series particularly well. Otherwise I would put the coin in the basket of interesting but with an speculative stab at the story behind it.

By the way you are still older than me, I am under 20.

Honestly, I think they would be truly enthused to have you. Unfortunately a lot of the numismatics clubs have a rapidly aging population and shrinking membership. New blood is usually happily welcomed in such places. Even if you don't become a member you should check it out, if they're like the Adelaide group then it's worth going just for the show and tell. You'll likely see things you didn't even know existed or never thought you'd see in real life. Collecting via the Internet has it's advantages but with the exception of the occasional museum visit or coin show you have to buy something to see it in person. I really really enjoyed it, great place to find coins as well, they'll know people with all sorts of collections and your much more likely to get a real coin and without ebay and shipping fees. Plus it's just an interesting evening if your historically and numismatically inclined.

Yours has an eagle between the standards as well, your first picture is just upside down.

By jove, sir! I think you've got it.
Another error I've made trying to over think things...
It's a shame that this being the case it will be basically be impossible to positively identify because of the wear and off center strike. All the same I'm pretty happy with it. I have a few other nicer (aesthetically) coins coming in the mail soon, hopefully I can avoid such obvious errors next time. Thanks though!
