Every VAMmer should have one of these...

Testing new scope cam on an 1884-CC GSA VAM 4A "Pinned Wing" -- my old 1MP scope cam has been dead for like 3 months +, nice to be up and running again...

Die gouge in "E" a little hard to see...but rest looks great! Cool new toy.

The direct overhead lighting sucks for GSA and pretty much any slab. I need to set up a diffuser. Had the scope for quite some time and was using it with a cheap junky 1.5 MP camera that bit the dust. The 5MP takes MUCH better pictures and bigger view.

OK now that I read it right. These are taken without scope just raw 5mp camera? What kind of camera? Has great close-up ability...even through the GSA slab.

No, these are with scope + 5MP scope camera. The closest I can get without a scope is to put the 200mm on the Nikon and let 'er rip, but it's a pain to process.

I agree. I spend more time processing the pics for VAMS than taking them...But it is kind of fun and with every picture the quality gets better as I learn more.

I don't have Adobe Photoshop. I found a free photo processor called GIMP. Supposed to be just like Photoshop. Still learning how to use it.

paralyse, I can tell the difference just from looking at a couple of your previous posts.
Having a good imaging program like MontCollector pointed out, is really invaluable. Gimp is free, and I've used that, but I've had PaintShopPro 7 for quite awhile and it works great just to do some minor tweaking. I usually just adjust the brightness and contrast and maybe clarify the image slightly, because it's often difficult to get a true depiction of the coin just from a photograph alone. For me anyway.

I think a little brightness and contrast fiddling would do wonders for your images, because you surely have some nice coins. :)

I use Photoshop CS2 for post-processing, but did not pass the scope images through Photoshop.
