Lots of folks would be happy with the set as it is ... but since these dimes, and my 7070 are the only things I'm really pursuing (5 holes left to fill in the 7070 besides the gold issues) I will probably keep after it as long as I can find sets with upgrades. That's going to be a lot harder after this one, but I'll keep looking. No doubt that, in the end, I'll have to pony up some cash for a few coins....though the 16-D is going to have to fall from the sky for me to own one in AU/BU. Everything in my set from 1934 to 45 is BU now, all from cherry picking sets.
Its fun. The ultimate goal is likely unobtainable, but it won't stop me from trying.

I'd take those all out of those Blue Whitman Folders and put in any Album. If you look into the Search tab about Folders you would find many reasons to do that. They are basically not good for coins. And as to the 16D with FSB, really common thanks to China. They are still making those.

I agree. Those one sided folders. no matter who makes them are terrible. They hold moisture for one thing. I've seen newer zinc pennies that were totally trashed by being kept in the blue folders. It was so bad that it even affected the plating on the obverse of some of them. I decided on cardboard holders in plastic pocket pages. I think that's probably the safest, short of taking out a loan and trying to get everything in a plastic Tomb from a TPG. Its a relief to know I'll be able to get that 16-D after all ... ha ha. This set will go down as my best acquisition to date. This is the 1921-P that I thought I could see details in the crappy picture a couple posts above. Its even better than I imagined. Yes, it has some obverse chatter and its all basically "Whitman Folder Damage", particularly to the reverse devices, but this is what it looks like after conservation. I'm not going to complain. There are LOTS of really nice coins in this set, including a couple with full split bands, and some with split bands...that aren't "full". More pics later... Chance

Some distracting obverse marks, but a tough coin for sure.

Of all the coins to NOT wrap in cellophane....he had to neglect this one. These belonged to the seller's father, who collected them in the 1960s.
I'm waiting for my new binder and 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 cardboard mounts to arrive. Then I'm swapping my set into that, and this "revised" set into my old Wayte Raymond album. I swapped a half a dozen or so coins from this last set into mine, but I upgraded more than that, probably 10 or so. the ones that I cherry picked were only marginally better. Hopefully, when the smoke clears, I'll not have spent too much money.
I'll post some pics of the other keepers when I get the other supplies in.

Chance, check the 1936 cent that you got in a lot on the first page of this thread, it could be the DDO.

I'll look at it. If you go to NGCs site ... there are lots of varieties of Mercury dimes that I never knew existed. It's really fascinating, but you need an electron microscope to see the doubling on most of them. Chance

I finally found my loupe and checked the 1936. Its not the DDO. That deal is probably one of my better ones. I ended up with pizza money in the two 1925-P FB dimes. I sold one for 70% of 63 money, so I'm way deep in the black on that deal. Plus, I kept the nicer one from that deal, and this set had a 25-P nearly as nice with split bands. I don't need it for the sets I'm building, so it can be sold off separately. Read somewhere not too long ago that "The 16-D and 21s are "not cherry pickable by any means". I only need that kind of lightning to strike twice more. A little off-topic ... but I have located the last style Seated dime for my 7070. It ain't cheap, but dang its pretty. The obverse is a bit blurry, but the reverse is sweet enough to rot your teeth. Like the Barber quarter I found, it looks prooflike on one side, and like a business strike on the other. Chance

Since its very likely that my binder, pages, etc will arrive tomorrow, I thought I'd remove my collection from the Old album, and post the coins I'm keeping from this last set I bought, beginning with this stellar 1920. No "post processing" on these pics. Look at the 1920-P in the page 1 picture I posted earlier. Its amazing that these are as nice as they are. The pic of the set as represented, looked like the 1920-P had been sandblasted. Next, in order would have been the 21-P, but you've seen it already. Chance

The 1923-P edged my present specimen. Not as spic-n-span as the 20-P, but nice bands. Also has a hint of clashed dies on the obverse. Next up ... on deck ... 1925-P Chance

This one likely hits the block, since I believe the one I have left from the "lot" from England, is a wee bit nicer. This one's not too shabby though. Actually ... I'm going to have to really peruse these 2. One stays and one doesn't. Hard to tell which one. Chance

This one needs a bit more work ... and I'll have to make sure I didn't put the wrong 27-P in my set....this one, like all of these, looks fine in hand, but looks a little trail worn compared to the others in real close up pics. Chance
