friends, it's story time. i have to set it up by telling you first that I stuck a BU 2012 bullion ASE into my pocket last night before heading out. in another thread here on CCF, Coinhole recently shared his story & pix of his lucky ASE that he'd been carrying around in a wallet for the last 5 years. it made me want to do the same. after sticking that 2012 ASE into my christmas wallet and it sitting for a couple days I determined that I just didn't want to carry the wallet. I don't care for wallets.. but I wanted to create a lucky pocket piece. so I decided to just put it in my pocket, no wallet. the ASE went out with me last night, the first night of me carrying it. i had my usual night. found & fed the kitties, carried on with my coin-hunting. at the air-vacs, I could see numerous coins in each canister, but each pile of dirt was wet and I didn't want to get my hands any dirtier than usual. no problem: using a kitty litter scoop I scooped out all the dirt from each canister & into a plastic bag (i carry these things with me each night for exactly this reason), ended up with about a football-sized lump of dirt, which I sealed up & stuffed into my backpack. I would sluice it in the morning & pick the coins out. nothing unusual for me. i finished my route & arrived at home in the wee hours and as usual I emptied my pocket to examine my pickins... see anything interesting there?.... zoom in: yep! 1891 IHC picked off the pavement somewhere. a little road rash on the reverse, but so what. i scored $2.56 in change (from the streets), plus that IHC. and what about that bag of dirt? I sluiced it this morning: another $2.66, making my total haul last night $5.22. methinks the ASE is going to go out with me every night...

you know, it's not every day that one finds a 132 year old coin on the ground.. three years ago I picked that dateless 1913 type l Buffalo nickel from the Kmart parking lot and I regarded that as an incredibly lucky find, but I never considered that I might find something else even older than that, which leads me to thinking there still is lots of great stuff to find in circulation.. I'm on a bit of a roll lately, I found $1.94 in well-scattered change tonight, the 6th straight night of $1 or more, which is excellent.

friends, I didn't expect a lot out of last night, but that's exactly what I got.. a lot! i had gathered $1.32 by the time i'd fed the last cat. when I arrived at a pair of air-vacs later I found: i had to scoop all of that into a plastic bag, it needed a bath (which is what it got when I returned home)... by the end of the night this is what I had amassed: the pile on your left ($3.98) is what I picked from parking lots & pavements. the pile on your right ($3.84) is the air-vac score, for a total of $7.82, a huge amount of change to find anywhere. the most interesting things in the pile of coins from the air-vac were a Jefferson dollar coin & a '58-D wheatie: i found a bottle of water last night (and the night before), too.

i scored a buck in the wild last night.. can you see it? i saw it as I walked up, despite the odd lighting.. over time I've trained myself to look there, sometimes dollars end up anywhere around that area.. always worth a look.. and sometimes I just have eagle eyes.. (or eyes without a face, lol)

outstanding pick, helder! you beat me to the forum with the story, lol! 5600 posts, too... you'll hit 6000 before I reach 1000! i love finding money as much as I like pulling old, collectible coins from circulation. last night I was on my way home with $1.83 in my pocket when I rolled into the circle k parking lot, one of the last few areas I check before calling it a night.. I didn't see it until I was nearly upon it..... what's that under my bike? near the pedal in the pic.... from atop the bike it looked to me like a wad of two or three ones... far out! someone left eleven bucks on the pavement for me! $12.83 on the night. I tell ya, friends, just keep watching for it, ppl lose or toss money away everywhere... I hope that the good fortune spreads to you all just by your reading of this post..

i'll consider myself a master when I begin posting images weekly of the numerous benjamins I keep finding.... what's even more curious about last night's score is that I almost didn't go to that circle k. yes, there's a story behind every story. post-covid key west, places that used to be open 24 hrs are not anymore but are still trying to be. circle k is a prime example. there are two circle k stores in kw proper: one very near my place and another about a mile and a half away. I usually hit both parking lots each night, but not always. last night as I was just beginning to get into my route (all cats found & fed at this point.. cats first, money second) I was biking thru the far circle k lot. a car rolled into the lot, the only car there. the store was closed (this was about 1:45am), the driver noticed as he slow-rolled thru. his window was down and he said to me as he crawled by, "Both stores are closed!".. 'both'.. he was referring to the other store. I replied as I slowed my coasting forward, "The other one's closed, too?" he said, "Yep", and rolled off toward the boulevard. as I rolled away in the opposite direction I thought it odd that the other store was closed, too. the other store usually has the better chance of being open overnight. it took about an hour for me to find enough change to cross the dollar mark. by then I was on the fence about finishing the route, but something kept needling me to carry on, which I did. needled me and needled me the rest of the night. I gave in to the needling and finished the route. that eleven bucks was singing it's siren song to me from the end of the route, like the ring of power chewing at Gollum all the time.... LOL

friends, tonight was full of pickins. i had amassed about twenty-three cents by the time I found these unopened cans at a bench along the boulevard: i happened upon a cluster of 4 quarters & a dime riding thru a parking lot: i scored $2.50 in well-scattered change tonight: 7 quarters, 5 dimes & 25 zincolns, but the real treat was the 2019-W quarter I salvaged from an air-vac canister: one of the Ws I didn't have! a really very decent one, too.. some circulation wear but not all beat up or nasty. someone vacuumed that from their vehicle. tonight's finds are definitely worthy of the dancing banana...
