Markn, great coin! I like the tone on it. What does it grade?

MS62. I've not seen blue on an Australian bronze coin before, I suspect it's been treated with something in it's 65 year life. There's also the spotty remnants of a fingerprint on the reverse.

I got an 1953 Proof Cent for $30 at a coin show, it is an easy MS64. I also got 1960-64 for $1 each.

So as not to confure some new collectors, this would be PF64. RedBook lists PF65 at $50, so I don't think you did too bad. Any pictures? We like pictures...

Sorry my mistake, I should know better. I always hate it when I am doing a search on ebay for pre-1958 cent proofs and half of them are "proof like", proof with an MS number or even proof and it is an business strike. I am working on my photo skills and can only take pictures when the kids are sleeping. I have a bunch to photograph that I recently acquired, 1909-S VDB, 1926-S MS64RD, and a bunch of varieties and errors pieces that I have found in the last few weeks.

markn:

I really like the 1942 Bombay Half Penny.

Interesting toning, and it was minted the year I was born!!

Excuse my ignorance, but does "Bombay" refer to where it was minted?

Hi Gary,

Yes, it was minted in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) in India. The reverse has long denticles which actually makes it a rare variety and worth a fair bit more than I paid for it if I could find someone to buy it.

I like the toning too, but I suspect it's been dipped in something in it's life. You dont see toning like that on Australian coins.

Bought 2MS RB Half Penny's (1966&1967), one Austrailian Half Penny (1959), 1 1971 10P from Ireland (VF), 1 Philippine 5 centavos from 1944 (VF), 1 1954 Sixpence (F-12?), and 1 1980 Australian 5c, all for the low low price of $2. Not bad, methinks...
