I will never sell my 2008 sets. These are for my children or my children's children. I didn't see anyone comment on what the value would be in 50 or 100 years from now. I bet all of you wish you had a relative that stashed away rolls of the 1909S Lincoln in BU for you? Right?

Just for fun! Let's take the 1909P Barber Half, mintage higher than this Kennedy at 2,368,000, CDN value in MS65 $3,400 ask. Let's say the Ken won't be worth as much because of mint state hoarding, let's say $800 which I think it fair: For my 3 sets: 120 x $800 = $96,000 in 2109

Great way to look at it Thad. I think I have convinced myself to buy at a least a couple sets.

Nah, $96K will at least buy a tank of gas! Just like the $60 would today. OR, the US will be on the AmeriEuro, and the Kens will be worth over $1M.

I have 2008 covered really well too.....I don't think there's anything I didn't buy!...(except gold... ) This year in 2009 will mirror what I did last year.....that's the plan. If something does hit with an extremely low mintage, however unlikely, I want to have it !....whether in NIFC, Proof, or Silver Proof !.... And I've never sold a single coin in my life......and plan to hold them for at least my lifetime. It would be nice to see something in the recent Ultra Modern arena steadily go up in value through the years.....

Where did the 120 number come from? Is that the number of coins in a JFK set?

20 coins per roll: 40 coins in PD set, x 3 sets = 120

Maybe this question is best placed in a different thread, but I'll try it here. Since many of us are buying these rolls for grand children in generations to come, are you going to leave them in the rolls or open them up and store them differently. In other words, are the rolls (are they paper or plastic?) that come from the mint, adequate for storage for some 20-70 years or so?

Rolls are in paper. Should be fine for long-term storage. There are original BU rolls of Franklin half dollars out there in their original paper wrapping and the coins are fine- except maybe some toninig on the ones exposed. But those are silver, which are prone to toning.

Just a thought, I read on the U S MINT site that if the demand is there they will strike more 2008 ASE'S.I did not think they could do that, or should I say would do that.Would that not change the price for all the 2008's out there already? PS:maybe I read this wrong?

i am almost positive there will be no more 2008 ASE's minted... Can you post a link.. Are you talking about proofs or special burnished, pr the regular bullion coin if proofs the demand is still there if special burnished they are still on sell if bullion they are still on sale

Number of 2008 Kennedy half dollars still in MS in 2109 maybe 1.6 million. If a 2008 is worth $800 then, a 1909 would be around $3,400,000 As for the 2008 proofs, it would take special legislation for them to strike more of them now that the year has ended.

I agree with that. 100 years from now the vasty majority of the 2008 halves will be BU, so I don't think they will ever reach $800 each. I'm thinking more like $50-100.
