Speaking of the proofs... I buy proof sets and proof ASE's but I have really taking a liking to the unc's I have found that unc's do have lower mintage's also...But if I had known I might would have bought a 5 dollar gold unc comm... I just couldnt see paying that much for a coin thats gold value is only around 100 dollars.. I mean I know it went to a good cause but that is a lot of extra bucks to throw around when I could have a roll of ASE's.. I did buy 1 unc. silver comm dollar and half dollar

I just revised the mintage numbers on the first page of this thread- go see them- changes are in blue. Most of them went up slightly, except cents, JFK halves and Presidential dollars remain unchanged. The major, major exception is 2008 Sacagawea dollars, which were looking like a key date through the November numbers. But it looks like both Denver and Philly mints spent the vast majority of the month minting Sacs! Number of coins increased about 10-fold from the November numbers! The 2008 SAC is NOT a key, as it looks like it is about the third most common date behind 2000 and 2001. The good news is that the JFK halves stayed put at 1.7 million apiece, keeping it's potential Key date status.

mycrob where did you see that
I am not saying your numbers are wrong but I find it hard to think that they minted that many sacs.. I would think they were minting the 2009 native american coins b/c they are already out to the public and they will be in circulation...Just hard to think they sold out "early" 24 million sacageweas.. I mean thats a heck of a demand

My numbers came directly from the US Mint's web site, where every denomination P & D is broken down with mintage numbers. I don't think they would put out 2009 numbers yet, so I that the US Mint just minted large numbers of 2008 SAC in the final month. They *may* have also started minting 2009 SAC a the same time with new reverses, but I don't know that for sure.
The real surprise to me is that the US Mint is sold out of all those 2008 SAC- where did they all go?

They have been sold out for a good while also...I wanna think they were sold out in november sometime maybe earlier..... When your topic was posted the sac's were already sold out... Conder posted this in mycrob's other thread: The sacagewea was not on the direct ship program ... If so I would have ordered that way and saved a ton.. They only had them for sale in the 250 coin bag or 25 dollar roll.. NOw they are nowhere to be found

Maybe it is a mistake. But the previous numbers were 1.8 million P and D each I believe. Also odd that they sold out in November and then suddenly minted a ton in December? Which menas they now should have a pile to sell, unless the numbers are delayed by a month or two? And why would HSN or Littleton buy up 20 million SAC?

I thought there was some stipulation that the mint had to mint so many Sac dollars for every prez dollar?

Quote: I thought there was some stipulation that the mint had to mint so many Sac dollars for every prez dollar? That was for the new Native American dollar... I think they are gonna do a 1/5 of whatever the total mintage is gonna be
